FREESPACE 2 SCP INSTALL GUIDE (UPDATED: June 6, 2014)

1) Fresh install of Freespace 2 (GOG or Steam works). Keep that directory in mind.

2) Use this installer (pick your poison)
JAR-based Installer here : http://scp.indiegames.us/fsoinstaller/FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.jar

This is a cross-platform (Linux and Windows) supported SCP installer. Point this FSO installer at your Freespace 2 install directory. After a minute or so (no idea why it takes so long the first time), select the third option on this screen:

3) 'Complete' install option; it'll add everything you need. If you see something like this in your install folder when you're done, you're doing the right thing: http://chattypics.com/files/fs2folderPNG_vazn8hr7fm.png

If you want, you can pick and choose mods as well. I recommend complete, for thoroughness.

4) Go to your Freespace 2 install directory and run the Launcher.exe file.

5) Since this is the first time running, it'll ask you to point to your FS Open executable. It should be one of two options (don't pick the Debug EXE, that's for the devs or troubleshooting).

6) You'll see a screen like this with a bunch of tabs. Click through them and pick settings you want, for example:

On the features tab, I have a bunch of stuff added in there. You can pick and choose what you want to be modified OR add this text to the Custom Flags field. It'll save your flags.

Now, you can go ahead and launch Freespace 2 with the SCP stuff right now if you want, just click the Run button...BUT you can swap between mods in order to do the other campaigns. For example, setting up the FS1_Port in the updated engine:

7) Switch to the MOD tab. Click "Select Mod" and click on the "fsport-mediavps" directory. Click OK.

You're done. Click Run and it'll load the Freespace 1 Port with the awesome graphics mods.


Here's the order (with the mod name) that I recommend doing things in:

Freespace 1 Port (fsport-mediavps),
Silent Threat: Reborn (fsport-str),
and Freespace 2 (MediaVPs_3612).

Then you can give other mods a shot, but make sure you do those three first, in that order.
