Sorry for the mess, I'm inventorying boxes and reorganizing stuff :(

Stopped by police in the parking lot of Shacknews HQ just now. They blocked my car in the lot. “Just wanted to make sure I was the business owner.” They didn’t beat my ass. So that is a plus.

The family and I were driving to the Big City for me to get a beard trimming and as I looked up from Octopath to decide on restarting the game or resuming from the demo saved game from 2017, I see a guy fall face first into the shoulder of the road right next to his work truck. I shrieked for my wife to pull over and I shot out of the car like a maniac; trying to run as fast as I can in my dad, no-heeled, slip on shoes.

My first instinct is he had a seizure but as I yelled to him asking if he was OK he fumbled up and then started to WALK ONTO INTERSTATE 20. I grabbed him and threw both me and him back onto the shoulder/ditch not realizing that we both missed about a half dozen cars going by at 80mph. I had no idea how close we were till my 12yo and wife yelled at me when this was all over. (My 6yo however finally got the bust decorated in Untitled Goose Game)

I then smell the alcohol on his breath and decide to just comfort him a bit as he is so confused he thinks I am someone that works with him. Apparently there was another guy in the truck, but I think he was driving and made that up. I have been in this unfortunate spot in my younger years and was somehow fortunate enough not to hurt myself or anyone else so I had a bit of sympathy for this 21yo man. He’s asking me to just take him home, he’s from Houston and just here for oilfield work, then starts to cry. I notice he has an ‘in memory’ elastic bracelet on and ask who the memory to be remembered is for. He tells me that it is for his father who just passed away. That gave me a bit more understanding of what he was going through. (I also talked to his GF on the phone that he called somehow during all of this).

Someone else pulls over at this time so I give this stranger his keys so he will stop harassing me for them. I should also add I expected to get punched at least 4 times during our conversation. Other guy drives around to the access road to get to where we are and had called the police and ambulance, which my wife also did when I jumped out of the car earlier.

I stuck around until the ambulance showed up, but as soon as I got back in the car this dude starts to try to fight one of the medics, so back out the car I go. At this time I feel like I’m the only thing that’s keeping this from turning into an all out race war. I started to cry a little during this. Police have already shown up by this time so I give them my side of the story again and ask if I can leave.

I then got my beard cut for the first time in 4 months today. My barber accidentally cut the front of my beard too short so I’m a little upset about that.
I’m having a hard time shaking the whole experience with this stranger; I will never know if he is okay or not.

He sucks but he’s staying. As much as I hate him I’m kind of glad because taxes won’t go up and that’s all I’m worried about with this idiotic spending spree. I have no children so future of planet and our species isn’t much of a concern.

Terrible stance to take but I’m trying to be realistic about this and the utter destruction of our economy. I welcome our socialist overlords with open arms in 2024 after I’ve moved money outside USA and am retired.

My oldest son Colin has a rare disorder called Sanfilippo syndrome. I've brought him up occasionally over the years. Shackers have been generous in the past when we raised funds towards researching treatments for Sanfilippo.

Colin has been doing pretty well for having Sanfilippo. Which means he still had some quality of life left, he still laughs, smiles, and plays some. Otherwise he's in a wheelchair, can't talk anymore, can't feed himself, etc

In January Colin came down with RSV and got pneumonia. He was in the hospital for a few days but seemingly made a full recovery.

Last Thursday he suddenly got sick fast and in an unusual way and went to the hospital.

Now he's on a ventilator with very sick lungs and sketchy kidneys. He's not really getting better. He's getting close to the point where we might keep him alive longer but likely just that, with no real quality of life left.

Most likely unless he makes a sudden turn for the better he's going to pass this week.

He's 12.
