33 unfsSo, I’ve been gone a few weeks to work on myself.
Tomorrow will be five weeks sober. Spent some time working on ShackMutations for L4D2 and added EasyQoL as well as fixed bugs in a few of the other mutations. Worked some weird hours. Got my credit score over 800.
If you haven’t been listening to Shack Together, you’re missing out.
Trying to plan a trip to Hawaii in August and going to take some time off in November because my granddaughter is going to be a first-time mom. -
33 unfsMy son turned 13 earlier this year, so we finally got him setup with his own Steam account. As an Xmas present, my brother-in-law gifted him Half-Life 2, telling him it was an amazing classic & still worth playing.
He platinumed it in less than a week.
Yesterday, right after I finished work, he told me he bought The Orange Box, since it was on sale for $0.48. We'd both coop'ed Portal 2 on the X360 a few years ago, but he's never played the full games & idk if he actually knows what Team Fortress 2 is. I think he's gonna be sitting down to play Half-Life 1 next.
Feels good, man. -

33 unfsEver since Microsoft flight simulator came out, I’ve been pretty into it, taking a few flights per week in a Cessna 172S. I’ve been half joking with my wife for the last couple of years about getting a private pilot license at some point in the not so distant future. When I turned 40 a few weeks ago, she told me to put my money where my mouth is and she bought me a discovery flight at the local flight school.
Today I flew a real Cessna 172S. The flight instructor didn’t touch the controls until we landed… He let me basically do everything, taxi to runway, take off, do some maneuvers, do a circle around the Chicago skyline, go back up the Lake shore, and begin the landing approach. Once we hit final approach, he took over, and I’m glad for it. It was an amazing experience and I’m already thinking about things I would do differently/better the second time. I don’t usually get air sick on airliners but the 172 got knocked around a little bit on takeoff and landing, and it definitely shook my stomach up a bit. But now that I know to expect that sensation, it may become easier. Anyway… I think that whole story about knowing how to fly an real Cessna 172 after learning in flight simulator is true… Because I did it!

33 unfsHowdy folks! Figured the day of publication was as good a time as ever to share my first video game. It's a first-person, musical puzzle experience. Free on Itch.io!
https://samj5001.itch.io/beautiful-reflections
I had a lovely group of UK Shackers help test the thing a while back, so thank you to that lot! Having released music for decades, going back to a 'first' in a medium is absolutely fucking terrifying, but I'm excited to take the feedback forward into future efforts. If you check it out, I hope you enjoy!
