Off to a bit of a rough start. Right outside my neighborhood I have to turn left onto a 4 lane highway. It took me into oncoming traffic, then seemed to get confused and just stopped. If I wouldn’t have taken over I would have been t-boned I believe. Then getting on the interstate it took a right to get on the ramp and came to a complete stop at the yield to merge sign at the start of the ramp. There was no one around, so I’m not sure how it would behave with others, but it hit the brakes pretty hard. If someone was behind me I could see getting rear ended.
After that it was perfect the rest of my 45 mile drive. Fun to try, but you need to be “on guard” for sure. They do a good job warning you about that. Probably a good thing this is a very limited rollout to people who actively tried to get it through the safety score. -
8 wowsEnded up convincing her that if she didn't see a doctor our relationship probably wasn't going to survive. Took almost a year of being bounced all around referrals until we found a sleep doctor who actually took it seriously and helped her.
She ended up on a CPAP-esque appliance (non-powered, it's a passive device that sits just inside your nose) that causes negative air pressure and keeps your tongue from hitting the roof of your mouth. She's also on meds for restless leg which have helped a lot. With the two measures combined she only snores very lightly. With ear plugs I sleep well.
During the worst of it, the snoring + restless leg was preventing *HER* from entering REM sleep so she was also getting sleep-deprived and started to sleepwalk. It started by finding windows open in the middle of winter and shit, which was unsettling but whatever. Then she started having nightmares that the kids were going to hurt themselves so she'd literally run from our bedroom towards their rooms to try and grab them. I got scared she'd smother one with a pillow or something accidentally, so I laid awake most nights and when she'd spring from the bed I'd tackle her and wake her up. She dreamed a couple times that I was a stranger and would wake up and try to hurt me. Near the end I was convinced she might actually wind up stabbing me while I slept or something. =/
I ended up on antidepressants as a result of the whole thing. Not really proud of that, but several years of basically living with Jekyll & Hyde did a real number on me. =/
Never really shared that story but I figured this is as good a thread as any to point out how affecting snoring and sleep disorders can be. -
