Looking for a good sci-fi book, any suggestions? Series are better I like long story lines. Space/military good.

I just gave up on pandora's star after 600 pages, so something with a bit more cohesion and uhh.. less new characters every chapter

Hey history nerds! (esp WWII buffs)

I found this really cool site this morning http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andrew.etherington/ww2home.htm - you can view day-by-day what happened during WWII and so far is the most complete version of this that I have seen. Something I've wanted to do for ages but never got it started.

I'd like to download all of this website in case it ever disappears, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I think DownThemAll only grabs pages linked from the page you are on, as opposed to like the entire contents of the site.

    Attention Twitch.tv Streamers

*** Important Shit That Affects All Of You ***

    http://help.twitch.tv/customer/portal/articles/1253460

What this means is that you will need to change some settings in your streaming program of choice in order to meet the new requirements, until some point in the future when the required settings are configured/forced automatically. I'll update my guide soon, but until then here's how to get right with Twitch before the August 31st deadline.

    OBS Users

    1. Go to Settings > Encoding
    -
Check "Use CBR". "Enable CBR padding" should be checked by default, leave that alone.
    - Make sure your audio bitrate is no higher than 128 Kbps for MP3, or 160 Kbps for AAC. Use AAC unless you have a specific reason not to.
    - Make sure your audio format is set to 44.1 kHz (mono and stereo are both fine).

    2. Go to Settings > Advanced
    - v0.542b users: Check "Custom x264 Encoder Settings". 30 FPS streamers should type keyint=60 while 60 FPS streamers should type keyint=120. The keyint value should be twice your streaming frame rate.
    - v0.54.x/Test Build users: Enter a value of 2 in the "Keyframe Interval" box.

    XSplit Users

    1. Click on the Broadcast menu, then click on the gear icon next to your channel.
    - Under Video Encoding, change "Mode" to "CBR".
    - Under Audio Encoding, change "Codec" to "AAC LC HQ".
    - Make sure your audio bitrate is no higher than 160 Kbps.
    - Make sure your audio format is set to 44.1 kHz (mono and stereo are both fine).
(Free/unlicensed users will have to wait for a future update that replaces the Speex codec. ^^")

    2. Click on the gear icon (the one below Mode: CBR).
    - Check the "Apply strict CBR" box.
    - Click in the "Extra Encoding Parameters" box. 30 FPS streamers should type &ex:keyint:60 while 60 FPS streamers should type &ex:keyint:120. The keyint value should be twice your streaming frame rate.

You can see if everything is working properly by visiting http://www.twitch.tv/broadcast/dashboards while you're live. It should say Excellent if you did it right. If you run into any trouble or your shit blows up or whatever, just shoot me a SM.

    My bet:
Over the course of the last few missions, you watch everyone in your team get killed off one-by-one till only you and dog are left. At the beginning of the final mission, the dog and you are separated for some reason, like the plane he's in gets shot down. Towards the end of the mission, you get captured. The bad guy (as in main bad guy) is about to shoot you when dog jumps out of a brush and grabs onto the guy's arm. You still get shot, but not in the head or anything, so you're not 100% dead for sure. After you fall on the ground, the game switches to dog's perspective from like 30 seconds ago. He's in the bushes watching you. Dog see the guy about to shoot you, and through a series of QTE's, dog jumps out, bite's the guy's arm, gets stabbed, then kills the bad guy (remember how in past CoDs you always stab dogs who jump on you? It's the reverse of that). So now both you and the dog are bleeding heavily, probably in some Eastern European forrest. Did I mention it's raining? It's raining because sad things happen in the rain. So then you, still playing as dog, crawl over to the protag's body and start licking his face. Protag's arm will move a little and he'll pet dog or pat him on the head or something, then your (as dog) vision will fade to back. The camera will take a birdseye view of the whole scene and slowly pull out as rain falls. Credits start to roll over. After credits there's a 3 second audio clip where it's implied that you both survive. You'll both return in the sequel.
