ATTN Hardcore History Fans!
If you like Dan Carlin, you should check out the History on Fire podcast. It's a pretty new podcast (I think it started last year) and it's a good compliment to Hardcore History, and the dude is an actual history professor so that's kind of cool.
Also, each episode is 60-90 minutes long, so it's a little easier to consume than Hardcore History, and he covers a lot of stuff that I don't think Carlin would ever bother with (like a 90 minute episode on the Alexander Hamilton/Aaron Burr rivalry and duel).
It's good stuff, you should check it out.

14 tagsI just discovered a new podcast. It's put out by the Directors Guild of America and it features directors being interviewed by other directors about their new movie. Look at some of the names on this thing:
Episode 1: Bridge Of Spies with Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese
Episode 4: The Hateful 8 with Quentin Tarantino and Christoper Nolan
Episode 6: The Revenant with Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Darren Aronofsky
It's on iTunes and it's called The Directors Cut. Only 7 episodes so car but I can't wait for more. -

14 tagsCan we have a book thread?
I got a kindle for Christmas and I'm looking to expand my library. I just finished The Martian (4/5 really good) and I'm not sure where to go next.
I like fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, and drama (though not soap opera "you've got 10 days to live and your cat just died" drama).
Stuff I've recently liked:
*Brandon Sanderson books
*the Martian
*game of thrones
*Patrick ruthfuss
*cats cradle
Stuff I haven't liked
*Stephen king
That's pretty much all I've read/tried to read recently. What are your favorite books that you've read in the last few years?

there are so many more recipes but she nails them all. she also does a killer lemon pasta that she hasn't blogged about yet for some reason. i never liked rye bread or pickles until i had hers. i've put on 25 pounds since i've known her. yum -

14 tagsCooking wings in a crockpot! The adventure turned out really good!
Grill? Nah, too hot. Oven? Meh. They never turn out that good. Fry? Sure, but its a mess.
That means its time to whip out the crockpot.
Here's what I did, if you want to replicate go ahead, but be creative, its easy.
1.) You'll need a crockpot, one of the big ones
2.) Chicken wings. I got them raw, unfrozen at publix. I got both wings and legs, if you have a fav just get those
3.) 1 bottle of BBQ Sauce, pick your fav. For last night's I used Sweet Baby Rays Hickory and Brown Sugar
4.) 1 Jar of Cherry Preserves. I used Smuckers brand. (I've used other fruit as well, Pineapple is fantastic)
5.) Some liquid smoke and Worschtierererererer Sauce
okay throw all that into the crock pot and get the wings all coated up and covered in sauce. Put it on low. I cooked them for 6 hours on low.
After that, take them out of the crockpot, they will likely be falling apart now. I then put them in oven on broil, just for a few minutes to get the outside a little crispy.
These things are so fantastic. Its like eating fall of the bone ribs but in chicken wing form.

14 tagsMy router is setup to use OpenDNS's Family Shield by default.
https://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/parental-controls/opendns-familyshield/
Anything TommyW uses to connect to the Internet uses that DNS server by default. The iPad he uses, his desktop, etc. all connect through that.
For things that I have 100% control over like my laptop, or things where connecting to closest servers matters, I go into their Internet settings and setup their DNS to point to the default Verizon FIOS addresses.
