I know there is a previous thread about PS but I'm starting this one dedicated solely to the event today. It is at 6PM (EST) 3PM(PST). Discuss and talk and speculate about what will lead up to the first of the new generation of consoles to be released in 2013.

39 infsMODERATION EXPERIMENT
Hey Shackers,
The past few weeks on the Chatty has highlighted a problem that has been getting worse and worse for years here. Political threads have been a source for nearly 95% of moderated posts lately. The contentiousness created in these threads has spilled over to other threads with users personally attacking each other. Even if users aren't publicly attacking each other here, the threads have people marking posters as their enemies or carrying grudges based on some poorly written political hot takes. The overall level of discourse here continues to suffer as a result and some Shackers simply avoid the Chatty as a result.
Today, I am instituting a two-week test period here on the Shacknews Chatty where the mod team will implement a temporary hiatus of political threads.
Now this will undoubtedly have a negative effect on pageviews here, as the daily political thread tends to be one of the most popular threads each day, but I believe this is worth trying with the Chatty in its current state.
At the end of this two week test period, a decision about the future of political discussion on this platform will be discussed.
While some political threads have been great places to get timely information, the threads have also had an undeniably negative impact on the community overall with some users deleting accounts and others just leaving the platform. There are other places like community-run Discords, social media, or even subreddits where users can still engage in the same political discussions.
The point of this test period is to see if we can actually improve the health of the community and maybe even remove some of the more toxic conversations in the process. We are not penalizing individuals with this move, and it is not a critique of the broader community. This two-week political thread hiatus is a test to see if it makes any difference to how people treat each other here.
As for Shacknews.com, there are times when the editorial team will still be writing stories that have political elements, and we will continue to do so. Shackers are free to engage in those threads within the existing community guidelines. -

39 infsI remember someone here on Shacknews yesterday talking about how maybe Kim Potter, the piece of shit who murdered Daunte Wright, was new to the force and that’s why she “accidentally” shot him.
She’s been a cop since 1995. Just a couple years ago, when she was leading the police union, when officers killed another Black person for no reason, she advised them on how to cover it up and maintain their innocence.
The police need to be abolished. And people need to stop making so many excuses for these state-sanctioned murderers when they don’t even extend the same kindness and humanity to a 20-year-old boy trying to live his life.
Fuck cops, every last one of them. Every single one. -

39 infsRubin is the right about how to deal with the GOP:
The conduct of the GOP suggests we follow a few simple rules going forward when considering policy debates and political events.
First, Republicans’ process arguments are invariably false. The law and the precedent for convicting a president impeached while in office is clear. Those voting to acquit simply cannot bring themselves to condemn him for instigating a violent insurrection.
Second, it behooves the mainstream media to point out that Republicans have no policy positions. As such they are not conducting themselves as a legitimate party in the battle of ideas. They spend their time whining about “censorship” (from the floor of the House and on the largest cable news outlet). It is noteworthy that other than 10 Republican senators, congressional Republicans have no proposals for attacking the covid-19 pandemic, reviving the economy or anything that would alleviate Americans’ immediate or long-term hardships.
Third, the individual and corporate donors, news outlets, think tanks and other political organizations that continue to treat the GOP as a normal political party are contributing to the erosion of our democracy and the elevation of authoritarian-minded racists and conspiracy-mongers. They too should be held accountable. Consumers, stockholders, legitimate scholars, real media and ordinary individuals should withdraw support from and recognition of the enablers. The twin powers of the purse and of public shunning are useful tools in knocking down the pillars that support a decrepit party.
