    Moderation Update

A complaint was brought forward in the summer of 2024 regarding a sockpuppet account. An investigation was started and it revealed that the sockpuppet account was being manipulated by moderator ninjase. This alleged sockpuppet account had been posting in Chatty since 2018 and almost exclusively in political threads alongside ninjase. (sockpuppet was regular_mitch)

The mod team checked posts from January 2021 to June 2024 and discovered that the sockpuppet accounts would be active on days when ninjase was active and not when ninjase was inactive; had similar posting styles; would target the same users that ninjase has had lengthy arguments with; had shared the same IP address between accounts that is not used by any other poster; would post concurrently in the morning/afternoon/evening; and with over six years of activity in the same threads had never replied to each other.

The purpose of the sockpuppet account appeared to exist solely to antagonize other users and support ninjase’s arguments. Over time, this conduct was also present in posts by ninjase. This behaviour is in violation of Chatty guidelines and against the rules of civility.

Ninjase was given an opportunity to answer to the allegations and the answers provided held no merit and demonstrated that even without the sockpuppet allegations, a forward path on the moderation team was untenable. Part of being a mod is trust within the moderation team and it was unanimously decided that ninjase will be demodded.

Multiple options were presented as a path forward and ninjase agreed on a 3 month ban along with removal of moderator status. The day after the 3 month ban was applied, the sockpuppet account deleted their account and post history. Upon return, assurances were given that certain decorum would be adhered to and sadly, this hasn’t been the case and we are moving forward with a permanent ban.

My son went to the ER last month.

He was having breathing problems at school and feeling lightheaded during a choir rehearsal, so I picked him up from the nurse’s office, took him to urgent care. At urgent care I shared with them the pulse-ox reading the nurse had taken from his finger. They said at that low a reading I needed to take him to the emergency room. So…

At the emergency room, at check-in I tell them the situation. The attendant comes out and takes his pulse-ox reading. It’s fine. We immediately move down the priority triage list and sit for three hours in the waiting room. Finally they move us into a cot in the ER. We watch TV and wait another three hours. My son’s symptoms have all disappeared at this point, but I figure we’ve come this far, let’s talk to a doctor. We never do talk to a doctor — only a PA — who runs a COVID/flu/other respiratory things swab test. All negative. They also take a chest x ray. Negative. We go home after 6-7 hours.

    Today I received a bill for $4,500.

Florida Panel Recommends Forcing Student Athletes to Give Schools Their Menstrual History

    https://newrepublic.com/post/170192/florida-panel-student-athletes-give-schools-menstrual-history

    (non paywall - https://archive.ph/5IaUK#selection-729.0-729.7 )

While students’ medical history is necessary for doctors, it is entirely unclear why a school needs all of that information—or what it would plan to do with it.
    ...
Since the fall of Roe v. Wade, people have been hypervigilant about third parties tracking menstrual data. Period tracker apps and the platform that hosts Florida’s new digital athletics form are not owned by medical institutions and therefore are not subject to health privacy laws. If subpoenaed for someone’s data, particularly in a state where abortion has been made illegal, companies would be required to hand it over.
    ...
Many parents and doctors are worried that schools will use the menstrual data to monitor students for late or missed periods, a possible sign of pregnancy, or to out transgender students by watching for girls who don’t get periods or boys who do.

Republicans up to totally normal things, as usual.

Day 1 - Epcot: Tried wearing masks indoors as much as possible. Our 12 year old starts coughing a little at the end of the day and says his throat hurts a little. Test him at the hotel and he has a very faint positive line. He probably caught it the previous week in his end of school trip to Toronto. There goes any chance of knowing if we catch Covid from him or from the other guests.

Day 2 - Hollywood Studios: Kept wearing masks indoors, positive kid doesn't mind keeping his mask on even outside so we let him (but don't force him). After a few coughs the day before he now has ZERO symptoms. If we hadn't tested him the day before we would have assumed it was the air conditioning causing him issues.

Day 3 - Magic Kingdom: Same thing, but with how little mask wearing we see everywhere, we stop wearing them as much.

Day 4 - Animal Kingdom: My throat starts feeling funny by the end of the day. At this point my feet hurt like hell with us walking 12 miles every day.

Day 5 - Universal: First day at Universal, and I feel hotter than I should. Resting heartbeat is 20 above the previous days. Guess I got it. Take some pills to get the fever off and I feel perfectly fine. During the night I have trouble sleeping due to the fever, but nothing critical.

Day 6 - Universal: Wake up with my throat hurting and an headache. I`m sure the headache is due to the 3d rides at Universal moreso than covid. I tell my party to leave and I'll join them if it goes away with the meds. 30minutes after they leave I feel fine and join them at the park. The 10 year old's voice sounds scratchy today but he tends to scream alot. He says he's hot midday so we give him some meds in case its a fever. He looks fine otherwise.

Day 7 - Hollywood Studios: The flu meds I'm taking definitely make my symptoms disappear. My hurting feet have been a bigger problem to deal with than anything else.

Day 8-9 MK/AK: The wife and her sister finally start complaining about scratchy throat. They both cough a little at random times.

Day 10: Time to leave so we test the entire family. Everybody comes up positive except the 12 year old who had it day 1 and the brother in law who had gotten Covid back in January. You can hear alot more coughing in the plane ride home compared to when we flew in.

    Summary:
The kids never looked sick or were affected by it. I was worried about them staying sick at the hotel a day or two but you would never know they had gotten it.
For me the only symptom that was a problem was the fever during one day but the meds took care of that quickly. Never felt sick enough to think I was pushing through it just for the sake of continuing the vacation. Same for the wife and here sister, They felt a bit more tired but that could have been from the vacation itself for all we know.

I felt bad not wearing masks at first, but I guess that's how the US wants to roll and you have to respect the local customs and such. Quite the contrast in how we are isolating and masking up since coming back home versus how we basically ignored it back in Florida.
