There was a lot in her three hour session.
One example is to not use music or rocking to get baby to sleep.

    This morning gone like this.
He woke up at 9 am(!!!), wife fed him and then 1.5 hours after waking I started to put him down.
I put him in his swaddle, put him in his bed, tell him it's sleep time and walk out.

He immediately started grizzling but not full blown crying. I waited till it escalates to actual crying, and then started a two minute timer. After that I went in, picked him up and calmed him a bit and then straight back in.

Now the magic, I rolled him away from me onto his side and started patting, very rapidly, on his shoulder and bottom. After a few seconds he was calm, although this sometimes takes up to ten minutes. After he was quiet, I slowed the patting right down and counted to one hundred. Now he was fast asleep and I walked out.
Often he will wake and start crying again and we have to repeat the two minute timer then patting technique, although you don't pick him up again if has managed to get to sleep.

Today was a bit different because he self settled before the timer was up on the second round! First time he's done that, and this is the actual goal of the entire approach.

There's tones more info about sleep and wake times and how to set up his room and other stuff.

Have you seen Conan's "serious" interview series that includes one episode with most of the core Simpsons writer staff? It's called Serious Jibber Jabber and is quite good:

Also check out the one with Mel Brooks.

    Attn: fat shackers

I've seen some posts this week about people trying to stay in shape, or not having time for the gym with kids in their life. I've been doing a bodyweight fitness deal for about six months, and I thought I'd post about it. I was fairly active in college, but quit working out about 15 years ago (it hurts typing that. I'm old). Late last year I was on vacation in Hawaii and reflecting that I needed to get my shit together. I looked like a porky old engineer in my family beach photos. I was 38 years old, 6'3" and 230 lbs. Not grotesque, but not where I wanted to be. Since then I've lost about 20 pounds over the last five months, which I'm really happy with, and it's been pretty easy actually. I want to post about the routine I've been following since I think it might work well for a lot of people, especially if you are starting from a completely sedentary lifestyle like I was.

My wife got into this bodyweight fitness thing. Mostly she was reading /r/bodyweightfitness and linked resources. She got this book, "you are your own gym." The book is fine, but the thing I would recommend is the dude's iOS app. It's called "Bodyweight Training: You Are Your Own Gym."
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bodyweight-training-you-are/id416981420

Here's basically the deal. I don't want to make time to go to the gym. I don't want to study up on the optimal workout routines, or optimize my diet macronutrients. I just want to get a good workout in that I can do quickly and feel some improvement. I'm definitely getting that from this guy's routine.

In reply with lots of rambling details.

Here's my "super awesome" subnetting cheat sheat that I mentioned last week:

    http://www.glio.net/Subnets-24.pdf

So at the top, you've got the subnet mask, wildcard mask, and number of usable IPs listed for each network size. Each block below shows the full range of the subnet. The first number is the Network ID, the last number is the Broadcast Address.

And once you pick a subnet, you can visually see which subnets are now no longer usable by looking left and right of your chosen subnet. For example, if you choose 96-127, as a /27 - you can now no longer use the following subnets, based on following the blocks to the left and right:

    /24: 0-255
    /25: 0-127, 128-255
    /26: 64-127
    /28: 96-111, 112-127
    /29: 96-103, 104-111, 112-119, 120-127
    /30: 96-99, 100-103, 104-107, 108-111, 112-115, 116-119, 120-123, 124-127

This isn't anything lifechanging, but it's one of the better sheets I've found that helps you visualize exactly how a subnet is broken up and understand the relationships between the various sized subnets. Enjoy!
