Renee’s class had a “character parade” today, since they couldn’t wear costumes on Halloween.

We forgot hers this morning, so I ducked out of a work meeting and went to take her a dress and tiara, and hung around for the parade.

Her smile when they came outside and she saw I was still there made my day.

I’ve been here since 2003 I think? But I post so infrequently that I might as well be a stranger to you all. I really just wanted to put this in writing to share, and to keep letting it out however I can and to ask you to briefly think about two humans that have passed on to the next unknown and to hopefully send them all of your good vibes and well wishes wherever they may be.

My mother, Rosana, passed away this past Monday after about a month of finding out she had cancer on her bile duct. This after losing my father, Eulalio, last year on September 30th due to organ failure. He was 79 and she was 76, married for 53 years. I was their unplanned surprise pregnancy in their forties. Waking up sucks because my brain is still catching up to these two monumental losses and the memories and thoughts of them both rush at me all at once.

Being a fireman/EMT for a little over seven years, all of my senses have experienced so many horrible things that I knew I had developed an emotional callus. It was definitely softened and cracked open by the deaths of my elderly parents. I know I can process it all, but every now and then I feel my brain and heart trying to have me break down into some sort of depression spiral.

My wife and I have a four year old that looks up to us, and he caught me crying while looking at photos of my mother. I had a primal reaction and yelled at him because he laughed. I think it was his way of processing it all, because he simply didn’t know a better way of reacting to seeing a man he’d never seen crying doing so for the first time ever.

Apologies for the wall of text, but it felt really good to write all of this down and share a brief glimpse of a fellow human going through some shit.

Well, looks like I'm not out of the woods yet. Seems I have a dead tumor in my brain that doesn't want to go away. Two weeks ago, it was putting pressure on my language center, and I could barely talk or type...it was scary. Steroids have kind of treated it, and I'm pretty normal, but getting surgery on Wednesday! I was a bit freaked out, but I'm pretty comfortable with it. I trust the doctors and surgeons. I'll be awake for it, which is kinda crazy, but they say I won't remember it. They say they want me walking around that day. 3 days in the hospital, and about a month at home recovery.

Lol, just the idea of being back in the hospital is awful, but it be what it be!

Also, unrelated, I started making a comic book about 5 years ago, but got busy with other stuff and haven't touched it. Ive recently dug it out and I've been plugging away at it!!

I just got laid off from Dell/NVIDIA this afternoon. I'm just down as shit about the while thing. Hope your situation turns around.
