I feel like most recent sci-fi movies have basically been action movies with laser guns. There's nothing wrong with that but I'm kind of tired of them.

However, I really liked Moon, Primer and Upstream Color. Have there been any other sci-fi movies in the last 10 years that I missed that aren't focused on action and are maybe a little slower paced?

The Fixes:

1) Put this in your Steam SC4 launch parameters:

-CustomResolution:enabled -rHHHHxVVVVx32 -intro:off

...where HHHH is your horizontal resolution and VVVV is your vertical resolution. If you desire to run in a windowed mode, append the -w tag to the end of that parameter list. Note that fullscreen mode apparently has an issue with the hardware rendering where, regardless of setting, it will only run in 16-bit color mode. The "x32" suffix above will be overridden by the game unless you run in windowed mode.

1a) There is another trick to get the game to recognize more modern GPUs that involves some file tweaking (yay PC gaming!). This step is more advanced and involves tweaking SC4 system files, so be careful here.

I got it to work with my GTX 560 Ti, but that thread was tough to follow in some spots.

2) If you find that it crashes with a multi-core CPU, add this to the launch parameters, too:

-CPUCount:1

If you want a completely stock experience (no NAM and no mods), stop here. You are more than equipped to enjoy it exactly as the developers intended. Buuuuuut you REALLY should take the extra step(s) below...

4) Network Addon Mod v30:

- NAM v30 is what you want, apparently v31 has a few bugs in it. During the install, you can configure several options, like changing the traffic capacity, tilesets for rail lines (think along the lines of something like Painterly Pack for Minecraft), or plugins for more complicated tools.

5) Add whatever mods you want. I assume Mr. Goodwrench will post his mods list in a reply here somewhere...
