43 infsAttorney here. Not legal advice. I have come out of years of lurking to lend a comment to this happy horseshit. Who gives a shit if the severance package is “finalized.” Agreements can always be amended. If there is no one else in the company that can do your work, then hold strong but be prepared to walk early.

43 infsI’m going to post this here because I’ve been talking for awhile about how much I hate how the word “endemic” is being misused to push a political agenda: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/4/14/coronavirus-far-from-becoming-endemic-says-who
We are not in an endemic stage. We cannot be in one if we’re still experiencing surges and outbreaks. Now whether or not you believe we need to loosen restrictions or go back to the way things were is up to you. I’m not trying to incite a debate on that front. I’m just saying let’s not misappropriate epidemiological terminology that we don’t understand.
If you don’t want to wear a mask then just say it’s because you don’t see the point anymore. Don’t say it’s because the disease is endemic, and don’t say that endemic automatically means harmless, because you will be wrong on both fronts. -
43 infsModeration Update
Yes, shadowbans are a thing now with the latest update. They are useful in certain situations. Shadowbanning [fry], virus, and foo were not appropriate uses of that tool in my opinion. [fry] and virus made wholly inappropriate comments in the vaccine thread that should have been nuked and banned. Foo was banned due to some history and I disagree with banning him (again, my opinion). I've lifted all of the bans.
That said, a good use case for shadowbanning is for trolls. There's a new user (probably jorell) that calls themselves Biden's New Meds, that person is shadowbanned. When we see trolling comments from relatively new users, they will be shadowbanned as well. Banning them outright does nothing but makes them create a new account. The moderation team does discuss these decisions but we all have other lives going on and may not chime in on some decisions. It's not a perfect solution. -
43 infsPost 3 of ?? damn post limit!
So directly to Asif especially and I want to make this clear I'm not being facetious or sarcastic, in any way.
This site is very lucky to have you. This is 20+ years of history and what you do for the site, the effort you put in, the money and time you spend is astounding. It's not far short of a miracle. You literally saved this place from death and have kept it alive and I assure you that I appreciate it, very very much and I don't, in any way, dislike you, at all. Infact I quite like you, you seem a great and generous dude. Obviously,....... not so happy with me. I got some inklings the last few months you were getting sick of me and that's a shame but again, understandable.
A very awesome mod recently reached out to me, to 'tone it down a bit' rightfully so. I specifically logged out of the PC version of shack and decided to post less but alas I could not hold and here we are, perhaps I should've listened.
To summarise, good things in life:
Ice cream
Saunas
GTAV, Witcher 3, Dark Souls, Okami and Doom 1, top 5 games of all time
My long living plasma TV
My enduring wife (and an actual person who posts here!)
Hot showers
Silence
Researching building a new computer
Making my wife gag from my farts
Otters
bad things in life:
Making people on your favourite website angry
Our square sink at home I hate the fucker, all the bits of food scraps get caught in the corner
Internet drama and taking shit too seriously (we are ALL going to die)
Starbucks black coffee
Long commutes
Nose hairs
Barking dogs
P.S I think almost every single one of you are awesome, even when I disagree with you a lot, I even insult you sometimes out of angsty frustration, which is bad of me but my own communication flaws. I generally forget it quickly and think you're all good, I promise <3
In conclusion: RELAX, it was in .. well kind of good fun?
P.S plz don't ban anyone, including me, FFS!
Good day I say.
P.P.S I was supposed to be on a bike ride this morning with my wife!
P.P.P.S mayooms, sorry! This is on me X let's go for our bike ride eh? X

43 infsbe a good ally and don't feel defensive about it.
your wife asked her how she's doing: obviously this friend is not doing so well.
if you don't want to really know how people are doing, DON'T ask.
Like the performative "hey how are you today"
and the reply was "I'm doing terribly, and here are all the reasons why..." - North American culture doesn't allow this.
Just know that this is exactly what your wife asked. Be nice, know that this person isn't doing ok. Either because of her own circumstances or circumastances beyond control.
The appropriate answer: "I'm really sorry I touched off all these feelings because of my privilege. I'm going to have a baby now, but I'd like to talk more about how this is impacting your life, and my relationship with you once I've had the baby and have the baby sleeping regularily. Hope you can see my baby and I hope she/he can learn from you when they are growing up."
Hang up, don't engage any further.
I am a POC and I really don't want to read any more replies from people about how your wife is right to be upset, or the friend is going batshit insane or whatnot.
People are NOT doing ok. And by asking the question you are engaging with these issues in their lives. If you have too much on your hands (ie baby coming in 3.2.1 liftoff!!!) DON'T GO AROUND ASKING PEOPLE IF THEY ARE OK AND ONLY WANTING A POSITIVE ANSWER.
rant over. -

43 infsMy favorite thing is you making yourself the victim so you can completely mischaracterize and then ignore the argument for gun control.
