Yeah I never posted about it. tldr she had a kidney stone blockage, twice (like a year apart, all the rest happened in like 5 week), second surgery an unknown infection happened, the only antibiotics that worked also caused kidney failure. She got the best care possible and we made the best choices at the right times and she wasn’t in pain and the last couple months have been real hard. We are also very lucky to have the means and the access to care that gave her another really kick ass year. When the first block happened the choices were surgery or euthanasia - and there aren’t a lot of surgeons that can do the procedure so we lucked out hardcore.
She was the best dog ever.

Couldn’t find an easier way to get a near-term appointment with a primary care provider, because Aetna’s site sucks & Zocdoc doesn’t show availability near me for in-networks docs. Gotta love the American medical system. -

16 awwsLast week I posted about our cat being put to sleep. Well, on Monday night I was told by the police that my dad was found dead in his house after me and my sister requested a wellness check; he hadn't been answering the door to neighbours for a day or so. Don't know exactly what happened, but I suspect a heart attack or something.
Tuesday I was in shock and exhausted from not sleeping. I'm doing much better now though. I wasn't very close to him and didn't get on with him at all.
I'm in the old mans house now with my sister to make sure his apartment doesn't become unsafe / a biohazard / rats nest while no-one is present. He was a hoarder, and holy shit the amount of shit in this house is astounding. GUGH. This is gonna take months to deal with. He collected old unuseable electronics, PC's, laptops, phones, cameras, for no reason whatsoever. I think he might have 30-40 desktop PC's lurking around here, at least that in digital cameras, an at least a couple dozen laptops. I also have to deal with my mums stuff, because he refused to let us move any of it when she died 2 years ago. Oh, and even some of my nans stuff is here too. Huzzah?
Do I unlock any life achievements for losing both parents in my early 30's?

Fuck my life today was a a real roller coaster. Last Sunday we got my oldest her first pet, a Hamster we named Brownie. He's been chilling and everythings been pretty normal for taming a new hamster. My daughter was doing really great taking care of it, learning how to earn its trust, top marks!
Well tonight, the wife was gone and I was home with all the kids, and putting my 2 year old to bed for the night. I hear my oldest daughter at his door. "Daddy, Brownie is hurt, I think that I see blood on his bed"
I thought nothing of it, even assumed she was exaggerating a bit.
I put my son down quickly before it was time causing him to get mad, but wanted to put my oldest's mind at ease.
HOLY SHIT. So i see blood all over the cage where it sleeps, and i didnt know a tiny creature could have that much blood. I was shocked. I tell her to go hang with her brother while I evaluate the situation. He was pretty weak (still alive) so i lift him up and it looks like the whole area by his legs/nuts was DUNKED in blood. I start to panic, because my wife is gone, I have all 3 kids and a super fucked up hamster.
I text the wife - "You gotta come home, kids are fine but I think that Brownie is dying" Shes home in about 5 mins and I have her deal with my daughter and my son who is still super pissed that I ditched him in his crib.
I call and find the 24 hour vet, with the general expectations that they're going to probably have to put him down, but we go anyway. At this rate he was not going to last the night. $300 later, we made the decision to put him to sleep. He had a prolapsed rectum which apparently isnt THAT uncommon and is caused by a disease most commonly. They told me about surgery options in the nicest way but obviously thats just a formality we all know what needs to happen.
So i made the decision to have him Euthanized and while im waiting in the car, im a hot fucking mess not because of the hammie, but because im so worried my daugher, who's wanted nothing but her first pet for MONTHS now, had to give hers up 5 days in. She has been SO good at taking care of it, so unfair.
I make the call, and we let her know that we didnt know it was sick, and you gave him a week of love instead of him dying in the pet store. We affirm to her that she was an excellent pet mommy and when she's ready we'll get another.
RIP Brownie, Im sorry my dude, but I hope this week was decent.

We put down Jean-Luc the kitty today. He did okay for about a month but we were giving him meds every 8 hours. Deteriorated suddenly in the last 24 hours though and it was time. He was my little buddy and only 10 years old :(
