Let's talk HEAVY METAL
Okay, so we're through half the year, and all the blogs have posted their "best of the year so far" lists. What are your favorite metal releases of 2016 so far?
Here are mine:
Vektor - Terminal Redux
Progressive thrash with a lead singer/guitarist that sounds like Chuck Schuldiner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4e5Jw9T5Zk
Fallujah - Dreamless
Ambient tech death? Whether or not that description makes sense, they pull it off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znjLSW8kfBM
Obscura - Akroasis
Tech death with great fretless guitar work; shame that said guitarist quit / was fired and was replaced with someone worse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNAqGrVrcMw
Astronoid - Air
Dreampop thrash; the most uplifting metal album you'll hear this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLZ0SHY3Ya8
Amon Amarth - Jomsviking
Best Amon Amarth album since Oden; it's Amon Amarth, but moreso: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6-krHfdmGg
Aborted - Retrogore
Death metal, but with more death and more metal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCN7jP5j1CM
Entheos - The Infinite Nothing
Thrash/slam tech death (sensing a theme?); it's good, really good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LncxMbCXP5o
Albums that are probably good but I haven't had the chance to listen to them much: Haken, Ihsahn, and Textures. Noticeably absent: that French band who put out a boring album.

18 tagsHello initiate! There are a couple things I recommend before hopping into The Witcher 3. First, consider watching the two ''Witcher Retrospective'' videos, recapping the first and second games, so you'll be aware of references to past events and characters.
Witcher 1 Retrospective - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiqMr0OvQog
Witcher 2 Retrospective - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSftIRQzYCM
ALSO the one cutscene from the previous games I highly recommend watching is The Assassination of the King Foltest. It's really well done and his death and Geralt's subsequent framing (which as 3 demonstrates is never really shaken off) is one of the more significant things to happen in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekb5l4Iozcw
As far as control schemes, I'd say it's down to preference. Mouse has faster look speed, controller has analog movement/sword combat. Whichever you prefer, really! -

2. What in the holy fuck ...

Some things will stay with you.

18 tagsCharlie Duke, the youngest man to walk on the moon, tries the Apollo 11 demo for Oculus Rift.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLYjn8HiP1U
My favorite part is that, as the rocket is taking off, you can tell that he was an astronaut because he is looking at the controls the entire time instead of staring out the window like I do when I try this demo.
It's uses like this that excite me more about the possibilities of VR than anything else. I can definitely see a day when history, art, science, etc. classes are taught using VR as another facet of the learning process. Reading about something is one thing, but actually experiencing it is something else entirely. -

18 tagsI'll admit to being a huge sucker for sleight of hand magic, but this guy is the devil. It's not even sleight of hand anymore, it's just impossible.

This is seriously one of the coolest things I've seen on the 'net in a long time. So well done and awesome. -

18 tagsFor those of you with a not-so-detailed knowledge of Lord of the Rings, CGPGrey just released his part 2 video about LOTR. Both are super interesting and give you a little insight into the LOTR. The 2nd one deals with the actual rings..
