Shacknews Community Discussion?
I’ve been here since late ‘97. I’ve grown up with this website. There have been a lot of highs and lows, but I’d like to say that overall the Shacknews community has helped me grow as a person. I think it’s a pretty indispensable place for robust discussion and knowledge in general. It would be a shame to see it fade away.
However the community can sometimes be hostile, and in the spirit of making my opinion on the matter somewhat concise, I’d like to say that the community would be much better if we engaged in discussions with three things in mind beforehand:
1) Not every post is an argument waiting to happen, or a chance to prove you’re the smartest. Check your ego at the door.
2) If you do argue, consider The Principle of Charity

A recent example for me was Borzoi’s recent post about Bethesda/Sony. She was having fun and she was excited. The thread was mostly fine, but it’s an example of why people don’t want to post. She ended up having to unnecessarily defend herself, and it’s due to how she was approached. Disagreement is fine.
