Goddamnit. One of my friends from rehab apparently drank himself to death down in Mexico.
He was a younger guy who had come to treatment with his cousin, and had managed to get back on the wagon last year but apparently it didn't stick. His cousin just shared the news in our group chat. I know that, with where I was at with my drinking, had I not stopped when I did I would have done the same thing during the pandemic, so this is simultaneously heartbreaking and frustrating because it just seems like such a waste.
If anyone here is struggling with any sort of addiction, be it substance use or a process addiction like gambling, don't be afraid to look for help. No matter how bad it may seem right now, it's never too late to turn things around.
SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) Hotline:

You can also call 988 in the US if you're having an immediate mental health crisis, addiction-related or otherwise.
If you or anyone you know wants treatment, reach out to me and I can also refer you to the counselor who saved my life and now runs his own treatment facility.

18 awwsDudes, maybe more cancer?
As some of you know back in 2015 I had a brain tumor that was removed and been cancer free since. Well this past week with my annual MRI a new spot was noticed in a slightly different spot in my brain. Tentatively I'm scheduled to get it biopsy'd next month. They are going to run a few more scans like a full CT on my body to ensure it wasn't somewhere else that spread but man this sucks.
With luck it's nothing just aging but I don’t want to go through the process again. Bonus is I know the process and am better prepared. Unbonus is it's always scary regardless.
Not sure who cares but I'll keep folks updated. Maybe If I do need the surgery I can livestream on Twitch in Just Chatting! -

That's a weird thing to type. What is this life?
Deleted facebook. Lawyer in the works. Actively working out.
This is lame as hell. I'd rather COVID.

18 awwsI know Sunday is for pets, but we got a new old dog today. Meet Charles Paul Huffington The Third. A.K.A. Charlie.

His original owner was my SiL's husband's brother who passed away, and when we met Charlie we fell in love and immediately offered to take him. This was a few months back, and today we got the call that we could take him.
He's a 7 year old beagle and gets along great with our dog and has already made himself at home. -
18 awwsWell my 2.5 year old probably has appendicitis :(. 6 hours in a waiting room, then they do some bloodwork and an xray and then say "you should probably go to the larger hospital, but we won't take you there, just go and show up in the emergency room yourself" so it's going to be another 6 hours of waiting in a room full of people with a 2.5 year old that's in agonizing pain.
Happy Sunday! -

18 awwsHealth update
Just got blood work results back, I don't have details, but my family doctor said 'dangerously high cholesterol'.
I never drink, never smoke, run 12km every single day, and am not overweight, and high cholesterol doesn't run in my family.
Good news is maybe that's what was causing mini clots / tias and I know next steps to try and fix this?
Bad news means hardcore immediate diet changes, no pizza, fried foods, cheese etc.
Dear god, hold me shack :( -
18 awwsJust got the bad news that a 15yo friend of ours is on end of life care.
This boy and his family were the first other family we met with the same diagnosis as our older son and we were there first too. It was an instant connection. The kids were even the same age. This was at an out of state study on the diagnosis, basically kids Alzheimer’s, so after a few days we all went home, us to the Midwest and them to Texas.
Over the years we met with them at annual conferences and always had that connection. They were all in on finding a cure. Then their family fell apart. The mom couldn’t take it and took off, eventually settling in Europe somewhere. The dad was devastated but stayed involved in the community. Then he remarried and moved to Washington with his new family and other daughter. Their son was left in Texas with his grand parents. We still followed them on social media and almost never did we hear about their boy.
Until this morning. His organs are shutting down and the end is near. Along with a picture of him in a hospital bed far from the days of a fun little boy running around playing.
This world is brutal.
Consequentially this is the main reason I stay off Facebook, my feed is too full of dead or dying children.
