i had to put down my sweet little girl gypsy today. earlier this year she had been diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy / ALS and it was quickly catching up to her.
she lost the use of her hind legs last month and recently started to become borderline incontinent and was pissing herself . she also had been dealing with arthritis for the last couple of years... now she seemed like she was constantly uncomfortable and always anxious.
the hardest part of the whole thing is that she was so mentally aware. still sharp and aware of her surroundings. i was unsure if i wanted to go through with euthanasia up until the minute the mobile vet came. ultimately, i decided to go through with it because she was not herself anymore and i wanted her to go out with her dignity. i'm still beating myself up over it but i think/i hope i made the right call.
we spent the last day cuddling with her on the couch and gave her favorite treats. took for a ride in the car and got her a double cheeseburger:

she was such a special cat. hungry for cuddles, never bit or scratched anyone ever, just a total glutton for belly rubs. she was a little lap dog hiding in a cat body.
