Power went out on my fiber and I saw that the power strip was dead. While troubleshooting we heard a loud pop. Girlfriend opened the bathroom door and the vent fan unit was hanging in midair in flames with molten plastic dripping off.
Fortunately we were home and I was able to get it out pretty quickly. I stepped barefoot on some molten plastic and have a pretty gnarly blister. Also a few on my hand where I punched the unit to the ground so I could smother it. lol
Fire dept. says this is unfortunately not all that uncommon for old houses with these ancient vent fan units that short out. Kinda scary!
