54 infsI wanted to posted about it for two reasons.
First - The number of vanity search hits has gone up 10 fold for me.
Second - This is the real reason, and it’s more like 10 reasons. To be honest, the deal he got is a deal one that I have gotten enough times in the past for other clients. I charged him a small legal fee, but I knew he couldn’t pay. He referred me at least two cases so that made up for the costs though. The reason I bring it up is because his case represents to me a number of things.
The first is how fucked the criminal justice system can be. While what he did was wrong, illegal, he was going to prison for basically taking shit from Best Buy…not a mom and pop store, not from some neighbor’s house. No history of violence or history of criminal activity. No DUIs. He has a family and a wife and they struggle to stay afloat. “Boo hoo right, we all have problems, but I don’t take shit that isn’t mine or pop pills…” I’ve come to realize you can understand how fucked this process can be until you experience it or have someone close experience it.
The second is that I really didn’t “save” him - I only kept his head above water. As it stands, he is a convicted felon. He struggles to find work, can’t get a decent place to live, still deals with the fear that the world could fall again and he ends up back in jail. His background makes it impossible to get ahead. Life HAS to be about more than just keeping your head above water. Sometimes I wonder that even when his probations ends, and maybe we get some or more of the felonies to come off his record, will or can things get better for him? I took a chance on him taking the case, the Shack took a chance on him by raising money for him, but it cannot be that will be the only time in life someone will take a chance on him. People like JT need others to see past the background, and look to character, drive, and desire – to make a ‘right choice’ and not ‘safe choice’. I took his case because it was right….not safe. More people need to take chances on people.
Last is the Shack. The outpouring of support for Jingletard was amazing. It was an honor to be a part of something like that. I had Shackers messaging me to get him work, police officers saying I was doing a good thing, personal connections were leveraged to help him out in other areas and in other cases. People ignored their instincts and the possibility of scams and gave to him. People here rose up to make a difference. The fundraiser is probably one of biggest things I have ever done in my career, which is crazy because I don’t think anyone would really understand what I was a part off. My wife thought I was wrong to raise the money, and my best friend who’s a lawyer too in my courthouse was just confused. I wish that Jingletard had a uncle who was the General Counsel at Google, but I just guess I have to settle for hair-man bear hugs.

54 infsYour response is exactly the response that most folks give to news that this is now a thing. No one is giving excuses. They're trying to figure out why folks are developing issues that are similar to things happening to our soldiers coming back from war. And it's really hard to do because if inner city kids barely have money for food, they sure as fuck don't have money for therapy.
You all look at it and go "they didn't earn it like a soldier did." "They did it to themselves." "They're IN AMERICA GODDAMNIT, not some third world African hovel". "Pick yourself up by your bootstraps kid, and then just shake off that PTSD."
Where in the article did it say we should let all of "them" off for crime. What we SHOULD DO is spend as much time and effort and money busting these gangs and making breaking the cycle that leads to kids growing up in war zones. Spend some of that homeland security budget on inner city gangs instead of Arab bogeymen and you can end this bullshit in a few years.
But like most issues, it only affects "them" not "us" so you don't give a shit. Niggas gonna be niggas. There, I said it for you. Feel better now? -
54 infsI am proud to announce It’s official, my new occupation is: Indie Game Developer 100% full time.
Last Friday was my last day at my current job as a Software Developer, I resigned two weeks ago. I finally decided I am going to complete my dream of ->creating a game engine->establish a game company->finish creating my game->make more games->and work on other game related projects.
It is sort of insane to think of that 13 year old kid that used to go to the local Arcade and watch the auto play of the Arcade machines, is now 35 and doing what he said the first day he saw an arcade machine “I am going to make a video game one day”. For the full story read the [in reply]

53 infsWe will not be posting any more news articles today, as we believe the ongoing terrorist attack in Washington D.C deserves our readers’ full attention.

53 infsShacktags are back in Latest Chatty app for iOS. Note that this doesn’t include the Shack[lol] pages in the menu — just tagging and the ability to see tagged posts in the main views.
Other third party apps that didn’t remove support should work as well.
The Shack devs just pushed an update that makes the third party stuff work, and I setup lol.lmnopc.com to pass things through so LAMP and other apps should work as before. -
53 infsSHACKNEWS.COM SETS NEW ALL-TIME HIGH FOR MONTHLY UNIQUE VISITORS
I am very proud to announce that Shacknews had more people visit the website in May 2018 than in any month in our 22 year history. I want to thank everyone on the team for coming into work everyday and grinding to do it for Shacknews. This is a great moment for the company and it is just the beginning.
Monthly unique visitors at Shacknews.com are up 305% since the bottom in 2014. This new record passes the previous all-time high set in 2012. Today's milestone is the culmination of many of our editorial efforts and I am grateful for all the support from the Shacknews staff.
A special thanks to everyone here on the Chatty for your support.
DO IT FOR SHACKNEWS!!!

53 infsI don't think Shacknews will die, but I guess I am biased.
We are doing our best to implement a turnaround strategy. We are experimenting, failing, dusting ourselves off, and trying again. This is a process, and we are doing everything we can to bring Shacknews back to its rightful place in the games media universe.
I would point out that much larger websites have shut down in the last few months (Joystiq, GigaOm, etc.). The games media is at a crossroads. This does not mean that a website cannot survive or thrive going forward.
Gamerhub was on the verge of profitability when we acquired Shacknews. We continue to have tremendous growth on our content network. It may be hard for Shackers to see, but the combined Shacknews/Gamerhub entity is not doing as bad financially as it seems. It is our goal to be running at breakeven, and we are starting to see sales growth.
I know that it is easy to look at this site negatively, but I remain optimistic about the future.
I am not done with Shacknews. I was given a challenge and an opportunity when I bought the Shack. I have an obligation to the founders and the community to leave the website better than when I got here when my time is up.
