21 awwsI finished Subnautica last weekend with my 5yo. We did the whole thing together and he fucking loved every second of it.
We were going to finish it Friday night, and I was letting him stay up a tad past his bedtime because we were so close and had this awesome narrative momentum, but when I finished constructing the last piece of the Neptune, he suddenly had an extreme objection to getting in it. He begged me to just go inside and look around but not to turn it on. It took a bit of exploring his sudden emotions to get to the root of the issue. Eventually he blurted out: "The planet is so charming. And you’ve spent so many hours here. Hours and hours and hours and you built a home and now it feels like home. I don’t want to leave; I’ll be home sick."
So I saved and quit with 5 seconds left in the game with the agreement that we'd do it in the morning. And then we did.
I bought him a keepsake to remember our 40 hours on planet 4546B:

Quite possibly the best gaming experience of my life, largely because I got to share the whole thing with my kid. But also it's an incredible game. We're both counting the undefined days until Below Zero releases :D -

20 awwsnight two that I can't sleep still expecting a call that our stupid lost dog was found.. when I know for sure that call isn't coming. so I got dressed and went around the neighborhood and tore down all the signs we had up that I could find.
