European Parliament Just Approved Fair Parts Pricing and a Ban on Parts Pairing
"Big news from the European Parliament! They’ve just made a groundbreaking vote, nearly unanimously approving the most ambitious Right to Repair proposal yet.
The latest draft of the “Common rules promoting the repair of goods” requires transparent, fair pricing and bans the software blocks on repair known as parts pairing. These provisions significantly strengthen the European Commission’s initial draft, which proposed a requirement that manufacturers continue to repair products beyond the legal guarantee period, inform consumers about their repair obligation, and contribute to a new national repair platform online.
If passed, this law would guarantee Europeans the strongest Right to Repair protections in the world. The Council is expected to adopt a negotiating position tomorrow, and then negotiations will begin in December."

Obviously we're talking two year old hardware, but I snagged a fully loaded 16 inch 64gb RAM 4 TB of storage with M1 Max for $2799. Original MSRP was $4900. They have a few of those left along with some 14 inch models. This is a better deal that a refirb from Apple. I was hesitant due to the performance difference, but MKBHD spent time with the new M3 Max and after a couple of weeks canceled his order for a new laptop because the real world performance difference wasn't enough to warrant an upgrade. B&H is now closed for Shabbat but will re-open tomorrow afternoon. If you are on an Intel based Mac, this might be a good option to upgrade. I'm already planning on using iterm2, alfred, and Fusion for virtualization. What else do I need? Anyone have app recommendations?

Condemned 1 with ray tracing or path tracing.
I have such fond memories of this game, for its time it felt so fresh, and claustrophobic, great little horror gem with brutal, satisfying melee combat. -

Replacing my old Infinity Primus HT speakers (from '05 or '06 not sure when I bought them). Just ordered a full 5 speaker set from SVS! Already own a SVS PB10 subwoofer, so I'm set in the bass department.

I don't really have the right room setup for the Ultra Surrounds which are bipole or dipole speakers. I chatted with a SVS rep and he said the Prime Satellite would be better for my room setup. All their speakers are voice matched between the Prime & Ultra series, so would work just fine for my rears. -
