I don't agree with this take, the board was following their charter, and the CTO and chief scientist (and board member) saw Sam Altman going against the objective of the nonprofit org and raised it multiple times.

The board did what they were supposed to do as per the mission of the nonprofit.

Social media gets increasingly worthless the more “the algorithm” prioritizes new content over people you’ve followed.

A number of authors and artists I follow have switched to things like blog posts or even RSS feeds because there’s simply no way to reliably get your posts to people who’ve chosen to follow you.

At this point, following an account is telling the algorithm “I like hashtags that this person uses” and that’s it.

European Parliament Just Approved Fair Parts Pricing and a Ban on Parts Pairing

"Big news from the European Parliament! They’ve just made a groundbreaking vote, nearly unanimously approving the most ambitious Right to Repair proposal yet.

The latest draft of the “Common rules promoting the repair of goods” requires transparent, fair pricing and bans the software blocks on repair known as parts pairing. These provisions significantly strengthen the European Commission’s initial draft, which proposed a requirement that manufacturers continue to repair products beyond the legal guarantee period, inform consumers about their repair obligation, and contribute to a new national repair platform online.

If passed, this law would guarantee Europeans the strongest Right to Repair protections in the world. The Council is expected to adopt a negotiating position tomorrow, and then negotiations will begin in December."
