The slim PlayStation 4 will come equipped with a 1TB hard drive sometime in the near future, an upgrade from its current 500GB default. 

The official listing on the PlayStation Store boasts that it "now includes 1TB hard drive" for $299. Previously, the PlayStation 4 Pro was the only model to include a 1TB hard drive, which had an MSRP of $399. The listing doesn't give a date, but GameStop (via GameInformer) lists the release date as this Thursday, April 20. Sony gave the official word on Twitter.

This gives the lower-end version of the PlayStation 4 a shot in the arm by giving consumers more space. This comes just as Microsoft prepares to roll out the red carpet for its own hardware revision, code-named Xbox One Scorpio.

So far the specs seem to indicate the Scorpio will likely outperform the PlayStation 4 Pro. Giving the Slim and Pro parity on hard drive space could be a step towards a price drop or other hardware revision on the Pro unit to counter Scorpio in the marketplace. In the meantime, for those who don't have much need for a system capable of 4K and HDR, the Slim should do just fine. Speaking as someone who constantly juggles space on his launch PlayStation 4, it's a nice feature to have.
