Nintendo May Have Confirmed GameCube Coming to Switch Virtual Console
In a round-about way, Nintendo might have just let the cat out of the bag about GameCube on the Nintendo Switch Virtual Console.
Rumors have abounded concerning the Nintendo Switch Virtual Console offering GameCube titles. In an interview with French publication Melty, Switch designer Yoshiaki Koizumi alluded that those rumors may be true. When asked about GameCube support on Nintendo Switch Koizumi said, "We cannot give a concrete answer, because we have nothing to announce at the moment. But there’s something I can tell you: we are working on some things along those lines."
While that's far from an official confirmation, it at least lets us know that Nintendo is looking for further ways to bring its classics from previous consoles to the Switch. The Wii U offered Virtual Console support for the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and TurboGrafx-16, but it's not known yet if support for all those systems will carry over to the Nintendo Switch.
The Nintendo Switch is poised to be a success, but how its Internet ecosystem will work is still somewhat of a mystery. If the rumored leaked hardware is correct, the Switch should have no issue emulating GameCube and possible Wii games. We'll know more about the Nintendo Switch's Virtual Console when it releases on March 3.
