QuakeCon 2017 announced for late August
The event will return to the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine.
QuakeCon 2017 has officially been announced, and it will be much later in August that in the previous several years.
The convention, popular for its massive LAN party and numerous informative panel dsicussions and presentations of all things Bethesda, will run this year from August 24-27, and will return to the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, after being hosted at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas for eight of the past nine years.
No details are available yet on when tickets will go on sale or what panels or presentations will be held, but hotel reservations at the Gaylord can be had at a discounted rate of $185 a night.
Games which will probably make an appearance at the event include DOOM, Dishonored 2, Quake Champions and Prey. Since a contingent of shackers attend the event every year, you can bet that we will keep you posted as more details become available.

The first year at the Gaylord the staff were absolutely not prepared for the Quakecon crowd. I felt very sorry for them. I think the convention center had been open less than a year and they hadn't hosted an event that large with a crowd that rowdy.
It got better in subsequent years, and the move to the Anatole was brilliant, but it will be good to go back. Getting shitfaced hammered at the vip party at the Glass Cactus and then being shuttled back to the BYOC for overnight fragging is one of the best memories of my life.
Also after the Clubhouse that year I got locked out of my house so I drove back to the venue and slept in my car in the parking lot in 90 degree weather. Someone I randomly ran into from a local TF2 server in the lobby let me use their shower in the morning.
Good times.-
Yeah the Gaylord hadn't been open very long and they were clearly booking anything that would pay, possibly charging less to get some butts in the door.
IIRC, this is why 2006 was a mess - it was announced only like three weeks before because they couldn't book the Gaylord and they were scrambling to find a place, thus the Anatole.
I absolutely hated the Anatole for years simply because the BYOC and the main stages were in different buildings and it was over a hundred fucking degrees outside so if you're a pansy like me you're literally sweating by the time you get to the other place. Then the NFL decided to house their staff there when the Super Bowl came into town (2011?) and the improvements included that long indoor hallway connecting the two buildings. Problem solved.
And then one year the Anatole literally exercised their "fuck you" clause when some pharmaceutical firm decided they wanted the venue and QuakeCon had to scramble and go back to the Gaylord that year.
Whole thing must be insane to run.-
Yeah, I was on the volunteer staff for 99,00,01, and 03. The good old days of a few hundred nerds at the Mesquite Convention center to the multi-thousand persons extravaganzas of modern days has been fascinating to watch, I wish I had been mature enough to recognize that I needed to stay in contact with those people.

no sir you should not under any circumstances whatsoever go to this very expensive restaurant and order five caipirinhas and gorge on artery hardening meat and do not for the love of god peruse the buffet of traditional brazilian dishes, cheeses, and cured meats.
we want to kill you and we'll do it without you even noticing.
