Sony delays PS4 Platinum headphones until January
Although announced alongside the PS4 Pro, the Platinum product will miss its holiday release window.
Sony delayed its Platinum wireless headphones for PS4 until January 2017 (via GameSpot). Announced back in September at the same event where Sony unveiled PlayStation 4 Pro, the headphones were supposed to be released this holiday.
The Platinum headphones are a step up from the currently available Gold model. Sony describes it as a high-end peripheral sporting "premium construction and materials for extra comfort, as well as enhanced highly positional 7.1 virtual surround sound powered by SIE's proprietary 3D audio technology."
Both the Platinum and Gold PS4 headphones have a hidden microphone and 3.5 mm audio jack.
At $160, the Platinum is a pricey jump up from the Gold's $100 price tag.

Oy. Very sorry about the typos. Reading through the story before posting, I realized I'd typed "headset" instead of "headphones" in every instance of writing about the product. Probably because I write about VR headsets exponentially more than I write about audio headphones; my fingers and brain got used to typing in the former.
I did a Find+Replace of "headset" to "headphones" and read through the article again to make sure the change to a plural noun didn't break any sentences, and thought I'd caught everything. Nope!
This is what comes of not sleeping well all week. The same reason I am awake at 330am on a Saturday morning.
Oy.

So we have new platinum headphones, an upgraded version of the console (not just a slim), we've got a peripheral for both versions but will clearly be superior on the new model, we have a tweaked controller, a redesigned camera.
Man the original version PS4 just feels well and truly replaced now. Hmmm console gaming, the new PC gaming.
