Nintendo CEO expects Switch to ship two million units by the end of March 2017
With just two million units expected to ship out, Nintendo is being understandably more cautious with the release of Switch.
Nintendo lowered its full year sales and profit forecast earlier today, which has lead Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima to expect two million units of the Nintendo Switch will be shipped by the end of this fiscal year, or by March 31, 2017.
Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki reports the information comes straight from Nintendo during its financial results briefing, and certainly paints a picture of a more cautious company this time around, and with good reason.
When the Wii U launched, Nintendo shipped 3.06 million units while it expected to sell 4 million units by the end of March 2013. Considering how poorly the Wii U sold for Nintendo, we can’t blame it for being more caution with the production of its Nintendo Switch, especially since there’s still much we don’t know about the product after its brief introduction earlier this month. Hopefully it’ll be the mobile pioneer we know it could be or else Nintendo could once again have a flop on its hands.

Sounds like both a lack of must-have launch titles and supply for a global launch. But, if this is set to launch in March and sell 2 million before the end of that month, I gotta imagine the release date is going to have to be March 3 or 10th since Nintendo has started doing releases on Fridays in Japan.

Still be too tall for shelves. I'm thinking like my setup.
