Report: Nintendo NX will have a Zelda, Mario, and Pokemon game within six months of release
A new report claims we should expect a new Mario and Pokemon game in addition to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
While Nintendo has been tight lipped regarding its Nintendo NX, we at least know to expect the mysterious console to release in March 2017. In the meantime, several rumors and reports have popped up that claim to reveal a number of aspects of the NX, including it having controllers that can detach from its body as well as possibly being compatible with Nintendo’s smartphone games. Today, a new report has been published that claims we could be seeing a new Mario and Pokemon games within six months of the launch of the Nintendo NX.
According to a report published by MCV, sources close to Nintendo have told the publication it would like to avoid a slow start when the Nintendo NX releases. Fans of the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U know how painfully slow Nintendo has been to release first-party games on its respective systems.
In addition to possibly releasing a new Mario and Pokemon game within six months of the release of the NX, the source also claims Nintendo has already gained support from third-party publishers, which includes the likes of Square Enix, Activision, Ubisoft, Sega, and Warner Bros. The source also confirms last week’s report of Nintendo NX being able to plug into a dock to be used in a TV are “100 per cent accurate.”
Let's just hope the rumor of Nintendo unveiling its NX in September are true because we absolutely cannot stand the anticipation any longer.

This makes sense. If the NX ends up being a console/handheld hybrid (which seems all but guaranteed at this point) then Nintendo's in-house teams will no longer have to divide their talent between two platforms. That means we should see first-party games released somewhat more regularly.
Shipping a new Mario game soon after NX's release falls in line with Miyamoto's comments from E3, specifically that a new game would be ready to show at next year's event. That'll be ~3 months after the NX's release, and within the timeframe given in today's report. http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/06/16/e3-2016-nintendo-a-new-kind-of-mario-is-coming -

It'd be surprising if it was something more than a HD port or new area with all the same mechanics of Sun/Moon.
I mean, with the NX and assumedly improved online features, they could really push Pokemon to be something more – but within 6 months seems too short a timeline, unless they've been secretly developing something big. -

Mario's still the alpha and omega of 2D platforming for me. He just needs a reboot. I'm a big fan of the New SMB games, but Nintendo milked that series for way too long. Go back to the drawing board and come up with a new design built on the same time-tested platforming mechanics, and add a bunch of new stuff: mechanics, power-ups, level design philosophies, etc.

Looks like it's already been done.

I'd get one. It has the best first-party lineup of this hardware generation, and Nintendo recently dropped the price of several of the system's best games to $19.99. http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-selects
