Pokemon Go causes Baltimore driver to hit a police vehicle while playing
This might be the story that finally gets us to stop playing Pokemon Go while on the go.
We’ve seen Pokemon Go cause some real-life issues since its release, which includes reports of armed robbery and stumbling onto a possible murder. It’s undeniable people are distracted when playing Pokemon Go, and last night, the Baltimore Police Department reported an accident that involved a driver who was distracted by the game.
A not-so-bright Pokemon Trainer decided to play Pokemon Go while driving his Toyota Rav 4 on the streets of Baltimore, which resulted in his vehicle slamming into a police car.
A body-camera video released by the Baltimore Police Department shows several officers standing around a patrol vehicle when the accident occurs. The officer wearing the body camera then runs to the stopped vehicle to see if anyone was hurt. The driver gets out of the vehicle, shows his mobile phone to the officer, and says “That’s what I get for playing this dumb a** game.”
While we’ve heard of car accidents involving Pokemon Go, this is the first time we’ve seen it happen with the driver immediately regretting his decision to do so on video. While we can’t either confirm or deny we’ve played Pokemon Go while behind the wheel of a car, this will probably keep us from doing so in the future.
