Steam Summer Sale 2016 date leaked via PayPal promotion

Once again, you should be setting your sights on June 23 for the start of the Steam Summer Sale.

37

We previously reported June 23 would be the day all of our wallets mysteriously go missing as Valve plans on launching this year’s Steam Summer Sale on that day. Today, that date has been re-confirmed, this time by PayPal.

As is customary each year prior to the launch of a Steam Sale, PayPal has unknowingly given all of us a heads up as to when the Steam Summer Sale will launch. According to a promotional image that has made the rounds overnight, PayPal wants us to brace ourselves as this year’s Summer sale is starting on June 23.

This isn’t the first time PayPal has leaked the start of one of Steam’s upcoming sales. PayPal has outed the 2015 dates of the Steam Winter Sale and Steam Summer Sale, giving more credibility to the leaked June 23 date.

Pretty much. They're still a good value, but not OMFG like the early days. Every digital distributor is having some kind of "sale" every weekend. So, it's not really an event anymore--just everday business.

its tough when you have everything already and a backlog with literally years worth of gaming.

That said there are a few things I could get excited about. we shall see !

There is a chance that their dwindling popularity and disparaging comments from the public will necessitate a decent sale to revive their reputation.

So what does "Average price per hour" mean? Looks like it's "average price" divided by "average playtime", which seems like it would disproportionately weight games you only play for a small amount of time and/or paid a lot of money for, and discounts games you've played a ton and/or got for cheap.

Seems like a better measure would be total sale cost divided by total playtime, that would give you an idea of the value your Steam library has provided you. I've played 888 hours and spent $414 so that means I've spent $0.47/hour. Even if you use the account value excluding sales (almost all my games have been bought on sale) you get $1.81/hr.

Also this doesn't count my Witcher time since I don't have the Steam version. I paid $30CAD for it plus another $20 for the expansion pass, currently have ~480hrs in game for a cost of $0.10/hr!

Everything about this list seems completely wrong. According to this, I've never played Half Life 2, Portal, etc, and lots of free games/demos that are in my account are listed with prices ($29.99 for Descent Underground? That was just a free beta.)

Between hundreds of missing hours, steam sales, and a good number of freebies, I'm pretty sure mine is somewhere around $3/hr in actuality.

At full price and only recorded hours it's $10.53.

As for played to satisfaction, I'm probably down to only 60% but for a while I had nearly 80%, but that's counting pre-Steam play time. Many I repurchased just so that I never have to deal with the CDs, patches, or ancient archives of discs. Can't say that I play the older games a large amount but it's comforting to know I can easily play them should the mood strike, and I sure didn't pay much for them.

But I'm pretty confident that the total cost with sales is actually an excessive estimation.

$7.34 per hour. But a good number of those hours is probably in Tribes Ascend, which is a free game. lol.

$7.83 but I think they didn't always track hours played. My numbers don't seem right.

There are actually a half dozen or so major games along with a few indies from last year that I never bought. I will probably never play them, unless we count it as playing the steam shame game, but heck, that's what steam sales are for. May as well stock up on games. Free money for valve and developers.

I think we should start having articles about gog sales as well. It feels strange when people go bonkers during a steam sale when gog has a sale and there's nary a peep

I bought all the classic D&D games like Eye of the Beholder and Pool of Radiance. Really looking forward to getting back into those. Also got some indie rpgs that I heard good things about, Age of Decadence and Serpent in the Staglands

The old Gold Box games are very attractive and I have a strong desire to pick them up but I still haven't replayed the Balder's Gate EE yet :(
