As with many of Ubisoft's game properties, it appears that yet another is moving to the big screen. This time, it's The Division.

According to Variety, Jake Gyllenhaal has been cast to star in the latest Tom Clancy game adaptation, and he is listed as producer as well. The project is still looking for a writer to pen the screenplay.

This would not be Gyllenhaal's first foray into an Ubisoft film project. He starred in the Prince of Persia adaptation, The Sands of Time, in 2010, surrounded by other big names such as Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina and Jerry Bruckheimer.

No other details were available, and Ubisoft is staying mum on the subject.

Ubisoft most current movie project is Assassin's Creed, starring Michael Fassbender, and is scheduled for release on December 21.

I had the same thought. Is there anything unique about The Division that would make it stand out as a film? Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed, I understand. But The Division? The universe is so bland and generic.

It will be a driving force for the improvement of rendering of the color gray. You won't believe the number of shades of gray they can render!

The Division's universe is equally as generic as every Tom Clancy novel ever written, and those have made a few pretty good movies.

i think the book > movie transition for the clancy stuff was helped a ton by a few characters, like marko ramius in red october or jack ryan in pretty much everything. the world's generic because it pretty much was our world in the 80s or 90s, yeah? :D

That's actually my entire point. The game offers basically NOTHING besides "lol quarantine!", which is a good place to tell a realistic story. Also I'd laugh my fucking head off if they put Jack Ryan in it.

lol, you know what - i completely forgot that the division was even a clancy thing! oof.

it'd be hilarious if they did shoehorn that in, yeah

"Chavez is an excellent light infantry soldier with an exceptional grasp of small unit tactics and close quarters battle. Although small in stature he is powerfully built and agile, a formidable opponent with a wide range of weapons and in hand-to-hand combat."

Having read a few Tom Clancy novels and played almost all the games, I would say The Division is the least generic of them all.

The virus transmitted through money thing could be a cool premise.

Gyllenhall beign a secret Division guy could be good too.

I bet they will shoehorn some family/kid rescue into it though.

It's going to be 90 minutes of JG getting sniped by teleporting hackers then 20 minutes of furiously writing a Reddit post.

The post credits scene will show him buying all the DLC.
