Wii U console production won't end in 2016, according to Nintendo
Who do you believe? NIntendo or Nikkei?
Mere hours after Nikkei reported Nintendo would cease manufacturing the Wii U some time this year, Nintendo is firing back saying their report is false.
A Nintendo spokesperson informed Japanese website IT Media this wasn’t an announcement from the company. “From the next quarter and thereafter as well, production [of the Wii U] is scheduled to continue,” according to a translation from Kotaku.
With the Nintendo NX announcement coming some time in 2016, we wouldn’t be surprised if Nikkei’s report turned out to be true. Nintendo wouldn’t outright confirm the report as it has current and potential Wii U owners to keep happy until the NX is announced. If customers knew production of its current console was going to end in the near future, they’d most likely just wait until the Nintendo NX was released.

Is Kotaku doing their own translation on this? The quote on their site says “From the next quarter and thereafter as well, production [of the Wii U] is scheduled to continue.” which can be translated into just one quarter pasted the next. Google Translate gives "plans to continue even production next fiscal year and beyond." which, given that Nintendo's fiscal year starts in July, would still line up that production may last through the summer and then sop.
So, umm, I guess that doesn't really change anything other than the specific about production after June. The original headline of stopping in 2016 (calendar year) could still be accurate.
