Amazon releases completely free game engine capable of creating AAA titles
Did we mention it's completely free?
Amazon is no stranger to gaming as several of its devices can be used to play games on, even going as far as creating a special Gaming Edition of its Amazon Fire TV. Today, Amazon is taking its support for gaming to a new level as it has both announced and released a new, free gaming engine, called Lumberyard.
Lumberyard offers deep integration with the Amazon Web Services server infrastructure and Twitch, and is powerful enough to develop AAA, current-gen console games. In fact, Amazon has signed official tools deals with both Microsoft and Sony, so developers can start building games for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 immediately. Mobile support, on the other hand, will be coming soon.
In addition to Lumberyard, Amazon has also both announced and released GameLift. GameLift is a new service that can be used to deploy, operate, and scale server-based online games using AWS. It will only be available for developers who use Lumberyard and will cost $1.50 for every 1,000 daily active users.
