Report: Ghostbusters game in development from Activision

This is set to be a big year for the Ghostbusters franchise and it's looking like Activision will be helping out with a video game tie-in.

A marketing blitzkrieg is on its way for Ghostbusters, which is not surprising, given that this is the year of the anticipated franchise reboot. And part of that marketing tidal wave appears to include a video game tie-in.

Retail Merchandiser (via IGN) is reporting about the numerous tie-ins set to come alongside this year's feature film. Part of that will include "a new full-fledged 'Ghostbusters' video game from Activision will release alongside the movie on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4" that will release separately from the Ghostbusters tie-in that's already releasing for last year's LEGO Dimensions.

Shacknews has reached out to Activision for comment, but such a move would not be unprecendented. Activision has not shied away from tie-in games, having previously worked with Transformers and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan.

For a look at a more vintage Ghostbusters effort, let's revisit a recent Shack's Arcade Corner.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
