When the temperature drops, that's when you can expect things to get crazy in the new Snowfall expansion.

Paradox Interactive has revealed the second expansion for Cities: Skylines, called Snowfall.

The Snowfall expansion will introduce an all-new in-game weather system as well as an in-game temperature reading. Cosmetic weather, which is composed of rain and fog, will be added to Cities: Skylines later this year as a free update in addition to other features that will be announced soon.

Players will face new challenges, such as ensuring their city’s infrastructure can handle seasonal heating demands and ensuring roads stay clear when snow starts falling. New snowplow services will play an integral role in preventing traffic from suffering a standstill, while new all-weather trams and expanded public transit options can help residents and visitors make their way around your winter wonderland.

Here’s everything the Snowfall expansion will include so far:

  • Rain and fog for existing maps, plus a new “Winter” map theme with snow and all of its challenges
  • Expanded public transportation options, including easier management of existing lines – and Trams, a new system demanded by fans
  • Cold weather increases demands for electricity, unless new water-based heat systems are in place
  • Build a snowplow depot to keep traffic flowing during winter weather, and employ new road maintenance systems to keep your streets in shape
  • New Chirps: #yeahthereare

I hadn't played in awhile, and my city is mainly solar powered. I was met with a serious energy crisis when night fell for the first time in my city of New Hyrule. I scrambled to put up wind turbines everywhere. This game needs battery backup for solar plants. I look forward to whatever problems snow will create :)

Oh man, you need those tesla wall storage units for each home Haha.

I'm hoping weather plays a big part in traffic.

Also excited about trams. More transportation options the better!

Might mode from the last expansion looks so nice.

wow I hadn't thought about that with solar power... i haven't played in maybe 3-4 months since Steam Cloud ate my saved game completely.

I really need to start up a new city!

Wind and water turbines are always the answer. I feel like it is a bit of a cop out in the game. Power just doesn't scale well compared to water/sewage.
