Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Black Market update introduces microtransactions
Here's yet another Activision property with microtransactions.
Yet another Activision property will be getting the microtransaction treatment as Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s Black Market will relaunch today to introduce cosmetic options to a player’s soldier, new taunts, new sets of bodies, and more.
While the entire range of new items can be obtained by trading Cryptokeys normally earned for Supply Drops within the Black Market, Treyarch is introducing Call of Duty Points, which serves as a new optional virtual currency. Call of Duty Points can be purchased to acquire Rare Supply Drops as well as Vials of Liquid Divinium in Zombies mode.
Items that are earned through Supply Drops and Gobblegums remain the same, regardless if the player unlocked them with Cryptokeys, Vials of Liquid Divinium, or Call of Duty Points. Call of Duty Points can also be used for additional in-game content, like unlocking the Extra Slots pack, offering an additional benefit for purchasing the virtual currency.

It's actually a pretty awesome update.
While they did add microtransactions (only for aesthetic items mind you) they also made it considerably easier and rewarding to earn the items in game as well.
Previously the system was rather flawed and unrewarding but now that they added in a sell-back feature for duplicates it's much more reasonable to actually get the items you want from the in-game currency without spending any additional cash.
