Dogmeat won't be the only companion in Fallout 4; Mr. Handy confirmed

Fallout 4 will have multiple companions to help Vault Dwellers in their journeys. We already know Dogmeat is one, and today, we're learning Mr. Handy will be an additional companion.

Dogmeat won’t be the only companion Vault Dwellers can have with them through their adventure in Fallout 4. Game director Todd Howard has confirmed additional companions will be available to escort around Boston and its surrounding areas.

In addition to Dogmeat, Howard confirms Mr. Handy is just one of the many companions that can aid you in your travels. Companions can be swapped for one another, although Howard doesn’t go into many specifics on how this system would work. “We do have a number of companions that fit -- you know, they’re very cool -- that fit different archetypes,” Howard reveals. “And the dog is a very classic Fallout one.”

Whether or not it’ll be possible for players to have all of their companions in one central location, or if not, available at a moment’s notice, is unknown at this time. Howard does say they can be swapped in and out, although he doesn’t go into detail as to how that can be done. Let’s hope it can be done fairly quickly as we’re sure a companion like Mr. Handy can be extremely helpful when a group of Deatclaws are sniffing around your camp.

After D-Dog and Quiet, I have pretty high standards for in-game companions. I doubt dogmeat and co. will hold up.

In Bioshock: Infinite, elizabeth was there to forward the plot. In MGSV, the companions had actual benfits to them. Gotta find a prisoner, bring D-Dog. Need to intercept a convoy, bring Quiet.

I'm not a huge fan of using companions in Bethesda games. The only time I like to use them is when there is story elements tied to them.
I find that they usually hinder my gameplay style by going agro on enemies, or by setting off traps.

I'm the same way usually. I only keep them around on occasion to be a pack mule for me.

I'm so spoiled by D-Dog I think I will be as infuriated with Dogmeat's AI as in the last Fallouts.
