ARK: Survival Evolved rolls with the new Doedicurus

The world of ARK: Survival Evolved needs more 'roly poly' creatures, so Studio Wildcard is introducing a new armadillo creature to the primal survival game.

The perilous world of ARK: Survival Evolved has gotten its share of giant creatures, both of the reptile and primate variety. Now it looks like the game is getting a new creature that resembles something closer to an armadillo.

The Doedicurus is a four-legged creature with a hard shell on its back for protection. It serves mainly as protection against predators, since it will retreat into its shell if threatened. However, that also makes it an ideal mount and players can actually utilize a "shell-charge" move to roll around the world as a nature's most dangerous bowling ball.

In addition to the Doedicurus, Studio Wildcard has also added a Spray Painting item for today's update. This will allow players to claim territory and label stuff that's theirs. A new "Plant Species X" will also appear for farming purposes, which can be grown to protect your base from hostile spores.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
