Former Daybreak Games president John Smedley will not return to company
It was believed that former Daybreak Games president John Smedley would return to the company at some point after he stepped down from his position as president of the company. That no longer appears to be the case.
Last month, former Daybreak Games president John Smedley abruptly stepped down from his position with the company. It was expected that he would take a break to clear his head before eventually coming back in another capacity. That no longer appears to be the case.
According to Game Informer, Smedley has started up an entirely new company. Daybreak issued a statement to the site wishing its former president well in his new endeavors. As for what those endeavors are, that is unclear at this time. Smedley later issued a statement that more would be revealed in the coming weeks.
Smedley originally stepped down from his position after an unfortunate bout of DDoS attacks that directly targeted Daybreak games, like PlanetSide 2, DC Universe Online, and the EverQuest series. Smedley had originally gone on a massive tirade against convincted cyberattacker Julius Kivimaki, who was convicted of over 50,000 cyberattacks, but was not given jail time, which many believe led to a new Lizard Squad attack on Daybreak servers.
