Players still hunting down zombies in Rebellion's Zombie Army Trilogy are getting an interesting new update today. As part of a collaboration with Valve, the zombie shooter's latest update will introduce the eight survivors from Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 as playable characters.

That doubles the Zombie Army Trilogy character count to 16, joining current roster members like Sniper Elite's Karl Fairburne. Exactly how did these characters wind up crossing paths, especially since the L4D characters reside in the present day and not in Zombie Army Trilogy's 1945? Rebellion has issued a free digital comic to help explain.

The Left 4 Dead characters are included at no extra charge. For more, check out the video below. To celebrate, Zombie Army Trilogy is also 66 percent off this weekend on Steam.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
