Bungie Making Changes to Leveling and Loot System in Destiny 2.0
Bungie has revealed that they are working on complete redesigns for the level system in Destiny, and that changes will also be made to the RNG loot system in Destiny 2.0.
Thanks to Gameinformer's cover story this month we've learned that Bungie is making some very significant changes to the leveling and loot systems in Destiny. These changes won't be hitting until Destiny 2.0, which will launch with the Taken King DLC, but they are still vitally important changes that could very well bring more players back into the fold.
Previously the experience that players earned from killing enemies and completing missions only went towards leveling for levels 1-20. From there players had to find pieces of armor that granted them Light, which allowed them to upgrade their level all the way to level 34 with the most recent expansion, House of Wolves. This system is being replaced altogether, however, and players will now gain experience that helps towards leveling all the way from level 1 to level 40. We aren't yet sure if Light will be completely removed, or if maybe it will play a part in the +40 level range. More on that as we learn about it.
The other important thing to take away from this is the changes that Bungie will be making to the RNG loot system. In Destiny 2.0 the system will have some procedures in place to limit the range of chosen items that can drop for you. This limit will be determined by the gear you already have as well as the weapons that have already dropped for you. Bungie has stated that these changes are meant to make each drop more meaningful - by reducing the amount of duplicate drops players get - and also to increase the chances of each drop actually pushing you forward in your level and goal of hitting the maximum level in Destiny.
It will be interesting to see these changes come into play, and to experience how the affect the playerbase when Destiny 2.0 hits this September.

Yeah this is what I would like, they made my weapons/armour worse than the default crap you can buy from the vendors with the first expansion DLC (I had raid amour/weapons) and it kind of pissed me off. I stopped playing for months after.
I'd love to come back, but if you've spent a lot of time playing the game and then they make that mean nothing - I probably won't come back
