Fallout 4 mod support requires Sony's approval prior to PlayStation 4 availability

PlayStation 4 owners who are hoping to play with mods in Fallout 4 will have to wait a bit longer than Xbox One users.

Bethesda announced during Microsoft’s Xbox E3 press conference Fallout 4 Xbox One players would have the ability to use PC mods shortly after release. This news left PlayStation 4 owners wondering when they would get their PC mods. But it appears the decision to make support mods on the PlayStation 4 isn’t entirely up to Bethesda as Sony has the final say.

Fallout 4 game director spoke with Digital Spy in regards to bringing mod support to the PlayStation 4 version of the game. When asked if Bethesda would bring mod support to the PS4, he responded, “We will be. Well, we're going to make every effort to. If Sony says no, we won't, but I don't think they will.”

He followed up by giving a timeline of when he believes mod support would be available to Fallout 4. “... it will come out on the PC first. So early 2016, the creation mod for the PC, and then we're going to make that work on the Xbox One, and then we're going to do the PS4 version. It's a lot of work to get it all working. And the PC to Xbox One connection is a much better route, and we've worked with those people for a really long time, so we're going to do it there first and then PS4.”

While mod support will be a welcomed addition to consoles, it isn’t surprising to hear it won’t be supported from day one. Bethesda has rarely supplied PC gamers with modding tools the day a game is released, so we’re not completely surprised to hear we won’t be seeing some crazy modifications the day Fallout 4 comes out.
