It's been a while since Shacknews had the opportunity to check out Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's multiplayer. As Treyarch prepares to launch the game's beta in late July, the studio has come to E3 2015 to reveal some new information on multiplayer.

The biggest piece of news is that there are two new Specialists joining the multiplayer ranks. They are:

  • Prophet - Also known as David Wilkes, Prophet got his cybernetic enhancements while working with the British Engineering Corps. He's a shocking sort, in more ways than one. His special is the Tempest, which is a lightning gun that electrocutes targets. Not only that, but anyone that comes within range of a shocked target will also get zapped by the chain reaction. His Glitch ability allows him to teleport to a previous position to get the drop on any foes.
  • Nomad - Also known as Tavo Rojas, Nomad is the last surviving member of a deployment force that specialized in jungle warfare. He tries to use the environment against his enemies. His weapon is the Hive, which deploys pod traps filled with nano-drones. When activated, these drones will overwhelm foes and swarm on them, like so many stinging insects. His ability is Rejack, which lets him cheat death once by injecting himself with a powerful serum.

Those that have been following stories on Black Ops 3's multiplayer may have made a keen observation that Prophet's ability sounds an awful lot like Reaper's. In fact, Reaper's ability has been transferred to Prophet since Shacknews last saw the game. Reaper now has an entirely new ability called Psychosis, which allow the malevolent robot to make three copies of himself.

Judging by some hands-on time, the new characters fit into the action just fine, with Nomad's ability proving to be something of a nuisance for other players. It's easy to simply shoot him and walk on by, not thinking to check and see if he's revived himself. Meanwhile, Prophet's Tempest weapon is wildly fun to use, especially in modes like Hardpoint or Domination where opponents are often clustered together. A well-placed Tempest shot can take out three or four targets in a single blast.

Prophet and Nomad join the aforementioned Reaper, as well as Ruin, Seraph, and Outrider as the game's Specilists. Three more are set to be revealed at a later date. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is set to release on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on November 6. Those looking to sign up for the multiplayer beta can do so on the game's website.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
