Street Fighter 5 introduces its Variable battle system in new video
Capcom has released a new video that highlights Street Fighter 5's new Variable battle system as well as an all-new video.
Capcom has revealed details surrounding the new battle system in its upcoming fighting game, Street Fighter 5, called the Variable System.
The Variable System, or V-System for short, consists of three variable mechanics that are built around the new V-Gauge, which builds up as the player takes damage. The three mechanics are: V-Skill, V-Trigger, and V-Reveral.
V-Skills are unique skills that can be accessed at any time by pressing the medium punch and kick together. They don’t require the use of the V-Gauge and have different uses per character, such as to help mobility, an offensive attack, or purely for defense. The V-Skill can help a character help fill up their V-Gauge more quickly, as well as helping them in an area they’re weak at.
The V-Trigger is a unique ability that can be activated once the V-Gauge is full by pressing both the heavy punch and kick together. V-Triggers can help turn the tide of battle as it taps into your character’s full potential, although it’s completely up to the player to properly utilize it in order to get the most out of it.
The last, V-Reverals, takes up on stock of V-Gauge and allows a player to counter an attack of the opponent while blocking. The reversals are similar to counters from the Street Fighter Alpha series, although each V-Reversal will be different depending on the character. Some reversals will push the opponent back, some knock them down, and some switch sides.
In addition to today’s reveal, Capcom has also released a new trailer that highlights the new Variable System, which should make it a bit easier to understand.
As of now, we only know the roster of Street Fighter 5 to include Ryu, Chun-Li, Charlie Nash, and M. Bison. With E3 coming up, we expect to know more of the game's roster, which we have a feeling will include Blanka.
