As part of our coverage for E3 2015, Shacknews is taking a look at some of the most anticipated games for this year's show. Today, News Editor Daniel Perez is looking at the most awaited games for the Xbox One.
Microsoft has had quite the race in this eighth generation of video game console as they’ve been just a step behind Sony for nearly two years. But this may be the year the Xbox One strikes back. Microsoft has lined up a number of exclusives that may get those with an Xbox 360, and maybe even a PlayStation 4, finally consider picking up an Xbox One this holiday season.
Halo 5: Guardians
Halo 5: Guardians is the first time the Halo series is making the jump to the current console generation, and after what we experienced from its multiplayer beta, we can’t help but be excited to see what 343 Industries has planned for the franchise. But we’re still being cautious of Guardians after the experience 343 Industries delivered with Halo: The Master Chief Collection. While we know The Master Chief Collection was such a huge project to take on, we’re hopeful 343 can deliver an experience that will wash its bad taste out of our mouths.
Forza Motorsport 6
Forza Motorsport 6 isn’t the first Forza game to be created for the Xbox One as Forza Motorsport 5 was a launch title for the console back in 2013. Even though Forza 5 looked amazing and offered a crisp driving experience we’ve all come to expect from Turn 10 Studios, Forza 6 looks to take the experience to new levels as a number of newly-revealed Ford vehicles, such as the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ford Mustang GT350, will be available to race for the first time. In fact, Turn 10 Studios’ development team were some of the few people to see the GT while it was in development to help make its video game counterpart as accurate as possible.
Crackdown 3
Microsoft’s E3 2014 media conference ended with a cinematic trailer for Crackdown 3, which means we should be seeing something related to the game at this year’s conference. It’s been nearly five years since Crackdown 2, and while we don’t know much about Crackdown 3, we’re looking forward to the day when we can play as super-powered Agent who’s tasked with cleaning up the streets of Pacific City. Oh - and an amatuer Orb Hunter.
Fable Legends
Fable Legends will be one of the few Xbox One games that will allow cross-platform play with Windows 10, but will also be completely free-to-play. Fable Legends will be a departure from the Fable series as it’ll allow players to fight as one of several playable heroes, each of which will have their own abilities, fighting style, and personalities. Four heroes can play within a single game as they fight against a villain, who is able to spawn a variety of enemies to fight against the heroes, activate gates to damage and split up Heroes, and use traps to distract and wound them.
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Microsoft announced Rise of the Tomb Raider at E3 2014, and soon after the announcement, we learned the company had secured the title as a timed-exclusive for the Xbox One. Just how long it will remain to be exclusive is unknown at this time, but one thing we know for sure is that you’ll need to be on Xbox One if you want to play the game some time in 2015.
Dark Horse Pick: Gears of War Ultimate Edition
We’ve been hearing rumors an Ultimate Edition of Gears of War for some time now, even seeing the game in action thanks to some leaked footage of its beta. There’s no doubt in our minds that a compilation of all three Gears of War games, and maybe even Judgment, is being worked on. But will this be the year Microsoft admits its existence and gives Gears of War fans the ultimate collection of their favorite shooter series? We guess we’ll just have to find out together next week.
