Xbox One gains streaming capabilities in May 2015 system update

Next month, the Xbox One will have the power to stream to other devices, including PCs and tablets running Windows 10.

Microsoft will be implementing the Xbox One’s ability to stream its content on Windows 10 machines in its May system update.

The streaming feature is tucked away in the Xbox One system preferences as an option to “allow game streaming to other devices.” The option, which is listed as being in beta, appears to be included in the Xbox One’s Preview Program, which often contains features Microsoft is testing out to a minority of console owners prior to launching to the vast majority.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced Windows 10 will be able to stream Xbox One games across traditional PCs and tablets. At the time, Forza Horizon 2 was shown streaming from a Surface Pro 3 and will allow PC users to be able to access their console without having to be in the same room as it. Windows 10 will also be releasing this summer, which gives validity to the timing of the Xbox One receiving streaming capability in May.

That's neat, but I really wish it went the other direction. Being able to stream any DirectX game would be the bee's knees.

it would be for sure but this is a good step. I can definitely use this functionality while the wife or kid is watching netflix on the main TV.

Being able to stream from Steam!

Actually, being able to stream from an XBO might actually make me get one.

Who am I kidding. I am only getting an XBO for Rock Band 4.

Given that 95% of everything on Steam is DirectX, that would be a given. But realistically, we all know there'd be a Microsoft component to whatever allowed that to happen. MS Gamestream for Windows or something. Essentially, what Nvidia Gamestream is to SHIELD, this app would be their gamestream to Xbox.

Wtf. Windows 10 is still months away. It's evil putting that option in there when we can't even use it :(
