Obsidian currently working on Pillars of Eternity card and tabletop games
Pillars of Eternity will soon be going offline as Obsidian is working on both a card and tabletop game for its popular cRPG.
Pillars of Eternity seems to be all the rage these days among PC gamers, but soon, fans of card games and tabletop roleplaying games will be getting in on the fun as Obsidian has revealed physical versions of their game will be available in the near future.
Obsidian’s CEO Feargus Urquhart spoke with PC Gamer about both the card and tabletop game versions of Pillars of Eternity. Urquhart said the card game will be released first, which Obsidian will soon announce a Kickstarter project to help cover development costs. The game won’t be a collective card game, but will instead be a game that allows four people to get around and play a single session of the game.
The tabletop RPG is something Urquhart is definitely looking into, although at this point the game seems to be in its conceptual stage. He admits it’s something the team isn’t sure how exactly it would be done. “We were kind of going back and forth on, do we use the game's rules, do we use someone else's rules, do we come up with another set of rules,” Urquhart said.
A tabletop RPG seems like a logical next step for Pillars of Eternity, but we're certainly curious to see how exactly a card-based game will play out. And, most importantly, if it'll be as fun as Pillars of Eternity itself.
