Atari reinvents Asteroids as a base-building survival PC game
Asteroids: Outpost is expected to change everything you thought you knew about Asteroids.
Atari has announced it will be reviving the arcade classic Asteroids on PC, although it quite won't be the same experience you may remember from the 1979.
Asteroids: Outpost will take place in the distant future as players assume the role of a deep space miner as they struggle to survive within the asteroid belt. The game will be reinvent the classic Asteroids formula by making it an open-world, sandbox-style survival experience that tasks players with mining, building, and defending their base as they grow their fortune.
Players will face a number of challenges while exploring a massive, unforgiving asteroid as they collect resources, scavenge for ore, craft equipment, and expand their territory by building highly-customizable bases. All of this is done while forming alliances and fighting off other players in multiplayer gameplay. Asteroids: Outpost will also feature recurring showers of smaller asteroids that players shoot down in order to defend their claims and harvest their components.
Asteroids: Outpost is being developed by Salty Games and will be available on Steam Early Access soon.
