Update: The stream is over, but the archive is available below.

Last week, 2K Games and Firaxis unveiled the latest game from Sid Meier, called Sid Meier's Starships. This companion (though not called an "expansion") to Civilization: Beyond Earth is expected to release later this year, but players will actually be able to get a glimpse at the game for the first time today.

Firaxis took to Twitter yesterday to announce a livestream demonstration of Starships. Sid Meier himself will be stopping in for an introduction to the game, while also offering an overview. For those unfamiliar with the Starships concept, the idea is to control a diverse fleet of starships to explore the galaxy and engage in turn-based combat.

The demonstration is set to begin today at 11AM PST. Catch the full stream on the Firaxis Twitch channel. We've also embedded the stream for your convenience below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
