Splatoon will be made available on the Wii U this May both at retail and in the Wii U eShop, Nintendo announced earlier today during their Nintendo Direct presentation.

Today’s presentation not only confirmed a release date window for Splatoon, but fans of the upcoming third-person shooter were treated to some new features. Splatoon will feature a hub world that allows players the ability to interact with other people’s avatars, known as “inklings.” Players will be able to start online multiplayer matches by visiting a tower within the hub world, with matches rewarding players with in-game currency that can be used to purchase new weapons and gear. The items not only offer customized looks for your inklings, but they also contain buffs that will aid your character during battles.

Splatoon is turning out to be a title that I grow more and more interested in whenever Nintendo promotes it. It just looks like it's going to be a lot of fun, especially with the ability to customize my inkling as well as being able to communicate with other players via the game's central hub.

This game looks to be a light-hearted and fun thrird-person shooter. I'm planning on get a WiiU in the near future. I may have to give it a shot.

Nintendo are doing much more for this title than I ever thought they would. I originally expected it to be a fairly simple MP shooter, but after the addition of a SP campaign, online hub and fully customizable character/gear my hype is at an all time peak.

I think this game will have some legs instead of being a fun romp for a week or two.
